Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Cask at the Minster Inn, York as Black Sheep Blonde. Abv matches. Pours clear golden with a thick white head. Aromas of light lemon and biscuit. Rate is minerals, chalky. Almost a Burton snatch going on. Odd. Thin finish.

Half-pint, cask at Olde Mitre. Clear amber body, scattered lacing, bubbles on the surface. rather subdued smell of dusty hops and pale malts. Moments of ripe fruits and semi-sweet pale malts to the taste buds. Satisfying bitter ending. Clean on the swallow. Pretty decent. (London, 28.09.2023).

Bottle from Waitrose. Pours almost black (cola colour) with a large thick foamy beige head. Aromas of tropical and citrus fruits, pine, leafy hop and a touch of chocolate. Taste is quite complex with more of the fruity notes, citrusy orange, pine, hops, chocolate and some added charred smoke and earthy peat. Medium to full body, low carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Nice lacing down the glass. Very decent beer. Will have this again some time.

[50cl bottle from Waitrose, Bracknell.] An opaque cola brown pour with a fast fading white head; sweet aroma with blackcurrants and berries; bitter tasting at first with charred grains, then some berry fruit and a touch of chocolate powder; leading to a gentle, lasting grainy bitterness to finish. Very pleasant.

Cask @ New Inn, Robertstown. Golden-blonde with a creamy head. Fairly standard hoppy brew, nothing bad though and is certainly session stuff.
