Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Half-pint, cask, festival ale at The Sir John Arderne (JDW). Off-white, patchy head blanketing the glass, black body. Inviting smell of roasted dark chocolate malts. Black chocolate flavours followed by a backdrop of coffee towards the ending. Sweet malty end, slightly roasted. Mild creamy palate. Pretty good after breakfast. (Newark 14.10.2022).

440ml can: BB 16th September 2023. Drank at home on 27th October 2022. Black bodied, weak tanned topping. I got more coffee and chocolate than I did peanut brittle, still liked it though!

Cask @ Regal Moon, Rochdale. Wetherspoon 2022 Autumn Beer Festival Ale. Dark mahogany with a glow and a creamy head. Fairly robust tasting for its strength, but easy enough in the palate for it at the same time. Light chocolate notes compliment bready malts. Not a typical porter taste but still a very worthwhile seasonal effort.

Cask at Babington Arms, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. The aroma is mainly roasted maltd. In the mouth it ias quite smooth with malts and plenty of chocolate. Some underlying hints of coffee too, though these are soon replaced by liquorice. Finish is slightly dry. This a nicev – a solid decent porter.
