Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle online from ‘The Trembling Madness’. Pours a clear deep Ruby colour with a medium sized off-white head. Aromas of dark fruits, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, brown bread and a little brown sugar. Taste has more dark fruits, caramel, roasty notes, brown bread and chocolate. Earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Nicely balanced. Medium to full body with a smooth oily mouthfeel. Nice winter beer.

Masses of chocolate in the aroma here, along with hints of dark fruits and milkiness. Pours a very dark brown – almost black with a decent but transient beige head. In the mouth the orange comes first with the chocolate following later. There’s treacle caramel and boozy rotting fruit in there too, but a recent stouty roast malt feeling underneath it all. A dry and bitter finish. Very nice but perhaps slightly too much fruit ?

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Clear deep golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of malts, toffee and earthy hops. The flavour is first slightly citric on a dry grainy background, followed by earthy hops and a dry and slightly bitter finish.
