Bottle at home from Sterk, Amsterdam, 20th January 19. Pours jet black, big off white head, that grows, very carbonated. Aroma is soy, dark malts, cocoa, sharp. Taste is bitter, orange, floral, cocoa. Bitter cocoa and citrus pith finish. Carbonation is far too high, but luckily this settles down. Great to get some fresh BIPAs. This is good

Hazy yellow colour with no head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of juicy, sweet mango. Relatively bitter, green, grassy hop notes.

F: big, tanned, good retention. C: dark, opaque. A: malty, caramel, light roasted tones, chocolate, cocoa, dark dried fruits, dark bread crust and toffee touch. T: malty backbone, caramel, chocolate, cocoa, bit coffee, nutty, toffee, bit citrus hops, full body, lower carbonation, very nice, fully enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Beerwulf webshop.

The first sour ale made by Oersoep in their own custom-built coolship, under the watch of Jester King, one of America's most prominent sour ale producers; 75 cl bottle of three years old, shared by Hinke, cheers! Thinnish, off-white, open and easily dissolving head lacing in disparate dots (and vanishing altogether in the end) over a cloudy, 'rusty' amber coloured beer with deep peachy hue. Rather unusual, but not unattractive aroma of dried grape peel, old wrinkled apples, glue and even slight varnish, soaking wet peanuts, stale artisanal cider, persimmon, 'Bretty' urine, old orange juice, vaguer hints of brandy, redcurrant, very old white wine, tomato peel, rusty iron, sherry vinegar. Estery onset, gooseberry, sour plum and grape impressions with a yoghurty lactic sourness setting in early on; softish carbonation, slick, slender and bit resinous or even glueish mouthfeel, rounded peanutty and lightly caramelly malt base, a bit more 'burly' than is classically the case in a modern blonde sour but dried by ongoing lactic tartness. Some retronasal 'rusty' oxidation in the end (unexpectedly) but not really disturbing, as well as hints of fermenting hay, grape peel, unripe plum and 'leathery' Brettanomyces effects, while down in the mouth, an earthy yeastiness builds up, harbouring a bitterish accent and drying, tannic aspects. Sherry vinegar pops up retronasally in the end. Bit oxidized already, strangely so for a sour ale bottled in 75 cl and less than three years old, but I could not be bothered by that: it is interesting to see how two prominent producers of modern sour ales work together and create something rather weird, but still enjoyable and fascinating - if you're into sour beers, that is.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. Amber-brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of smoke, veggies, some caramel. Flavour is light to medium sweet, veggies, some smoke, minerals, bitter finish. Light bodied, over-carbonated. Meh.

Bottle from LekkerLokaal, Nijmegen opened at home. Black with brown candyflosslike fluffy head. Big sweet roasted dark and chocolate malts. Hazlenutty and espressoesque. Molasses and chocolate dipped mango and pineapple. Weedy and piney too. Caramelized peaches. Big sweet and bitter. Over medium body and soft carbonation. Greasy smooth muddy mouthfeel. Great stuff. Good to see some Black IPA again. #blackipamatters
