Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.

In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.

In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

Golden, clear with a medium white head. A hops, lemon and straw aroma. Medium bitter with a soft hops and straw end.

Jæren Ølfestival 2021. Deep golden color with an off-white head. Aroma is sourness, berries, alcohol. Flavor is oxidation, berries, alcohol, grapes, lemon. Very nice beer.

Hazy deep golden pour with a small head Fine intensity in the aroma A bit to high carbonation level. Fizzy mouth feeling Mild pleasant acidity. Well masked alcohol Malty, vinous and fruity flavor [Bottle at Jæren Beer Festival 21]

On tap @Chiù Sapore (Rome). Dorata, un filo torbida, schiuma bianca media, mediamente persistente. Al naso note di scorza d'agrumi, grano, cereali, pane, leggero speziato, citronella. In bocca è morbida, un filo cerealosa, con chiusura amara bilanciata. Corpo leggero, carbonazione media. Si beve.

Forholdsvis pålitelige notater fra Jæren Ølfestival 2021: nesten helt klar kobbergylden med kort skum. Røde bær, røde epler, noe som minner om lys sherry. Slank og meget lettdrikkelig mtp vitamininnholdet. Frisk, bærlig avslutning. Elegant 0,75 flaske.

Shared bottle at regional tasting. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma with oxidised sherry notes and oak. Medium sour and oaky flavour.

Bottle, 75cl corked. It pours an almost clear body, dark golden, with a small white head. The aroma is mostly on the fruity side, with a touch of cellar and oxidation. Some flower and hints of herbs. It’s medium to full-bodied, warming and softly carbonated, with a touch of lemony sourness. Pale malts, bread hints, grass, pear, apple hints, cellar, cork, oxidation and generic fruityness in the flavor. Long finish. A bit warming and oxidized this one, perhaps a bit too heavy on the finish carbonation too. In a strange way the initial carbonation felt nice, but in the finish it was a bit too intense. 210813

Draft at Bella Italia, Cambridge. Aroma has soft citrus, lager yeast and equally soft grains. Medium gold. Thick foamy white head. Light itter. A smooth umami wheat edge. Develops a Light-medium sour edge. Underlying sweetness and touch of space becomes more obvious on folllow-up. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft carbonation. Dry slightly astringent finish. OK- so may he Underlying Flavored Other but thus is an enjoyable smooth lager.
