Description
In 2005, Leonardo Di Vicenzo opened Birra del Borgo’s first brewery, Collerosso, in Borgorose, a small village located in the Valle del Salto, in province of Rieti, on the border between Lazio and Abruzzo. 2009 marked a watershed for Birra del Borgo with the opening of our new brewery. Moving out of our one-room space at Collerosso and into a modernized facility, our new brewery became the heartbeat of the company and cleared a way to fulfilling our brewing ambitions.
In 2015 Collerosso brewery begins new life. We rethought it entirely to pursue a new journey of research and discovery: Spontaneous Fermentation. Allowing wild yeast in the air to ferment the beer directly in the Coolship, marked an important milestone in our journey. Indeed, Collerosso and these beers represent our feeling to always change, to always strive to discover more. We are always restless and eager to see things from a different, unique, new perspective.
In 2016 Birra del Borgo was bought for 100% by AB InBev.

Bottle, 2006-09-19, 6-4-6-3-13=30
Hazy dark amber color; big head. The aroma is too yeasty in the beginning, then it shows some fruitness from the yeast. The body is quite weak, there is some malt flavor and mainly some caramel; the bitterness is normal, also coming from burnt sugars. I think that the yeast has worked too much in the bottle. At room temperature it improves, the body becomes thicker showing more malt, and a good quality hopping.
Draught at Copenhagen Beerfestival 2006, 2006-05-20, 7-5-7-4-14=37
Hazy dark amber color. Malty aroma, some yeast, some hops. Malty taste, medium structure, some yeast, caramel, hint of chocolate, some yeast. Quite high bitterness. Good.

2008-12-02, draught at Pig´s Ear Festival 2008, London, 7-4-7-5-15=38
Cloudy amber color. Strange beer: very strong perfumy aroma, like the perfumes in Indian shops, and oranges; then the tangerines and oranges take over, and it gets better. I like the flavor more, with some good malt, medium sweet, and a good hopping with fruity touch (bitter oranges). Confusingly complex, very good.

Hazy amber color. The aroma has some malt and hop. The flavor has a lot of malt and toffee hop, strong bitterness, well mixed. Strong final. Very good.

(Bottle at GBBF, London, 3 Aug) Colour is amber, hazy, with an off-white head. Nose is fruity with loads of grapefruit and a lovely Cascade hop character. Taste is fruity with grapefruit, apricots, dried fruit, plums and cherries. Long hoppy finish. Very complex and quite brilliant. It seems most of the raters got the same infected batch, give it a new chance when fresh. It’s very nice.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a very dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. Lightly burned malt aroma. Medium body with burned malty accents and then a hard to describe fruity tang that somehow appears misplaced. A bitter finish from the malts. 110806

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a slightly hazy reddish amber with a gigantic, off-white head with excellent retention. Lightly tart nose with some caramel. Medium-bodied, very malty and fruity with accents of caramel and a rather rustic, artisanal touch - very much like some of the newer Danish microbrews. The alcohol is very well hidden, but the acidity really picks up in the finish. 050706
