Description
Tap East opened its doors for the first time in 2011 several years before the explosion of breweries across the UK that would happen later in the decade. Having run a successful wholesale business, along side the Rake in Borough market for a number of years, Mike Hill and Richard Dinwoodie were approached by Westfield about the possibility of opening a brewpub in their new site next to the Olympic park in Stratford which they accepted and after several months, lots of building work, and a brewery being shipped down from Cumbria , Tap East was born.

Today the bar offers a welcome respite from the mono-culture of chain stores that populate much of the rest of the centre, while beers produced on site have won a number of awards over the years.

Pigs Ear. Cask. Hazy orange - amber beer, small bubbly cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Good condition. Light malts, decent sweetness. Trace of cream, whisper of caramel. Good resinous spicy hops. Bitterish orange and tangerine peel. Oily citrus underneath. Red berries. Light finish. Nice. Satisfyingly hoppy.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2018 - London. Day 1. Pours clear orange-gold, few bubbles on top. Rich, lots of liquefied tropical fruits, melon, ripe oranges, piney bitterness. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with soft carbonation. Warming and resinous finish, more hearty tropical fruits, alcohol, bread, pine. Alright, would be better on keg.

On tap at Tap East. Cloudy orange dark colour no head. It's sharp mango juice. Wow sour and sharp but the fruit is good. Wouldn't guess it's even a beer. Fruit juice throughout. Wow.

Keg at the Rake, 18/08/18. Very lightly hazed golden copper with a moderate off white covering that retains as a swirl. Nose carries old skool notes, light pine, bitter tropical fruits, breads. Taste comprises orange pith, grapefruit, caramel, sweet malts, light pine dusting, citric tinged straw. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with slightly astringent hop bitterness. Ok hoppy sipper if a touch simplistic.

Keg at LBA. It pours crazy cloudy orange with no head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, tangy, mango, passion fruit and apricot. The taste is sour, fruity, tangy, earthy, touch of acidity, fruit cocktail, five alive fruit juice and sour candy through the finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good fun.
