Description
In 2011 we Howling Hops reopened the Cock tavern on Mare street as Hackney’s first brewpub. The brewery expanded a few times but still couldn’t really keep up with the demand. So in 2015 the brewery moved to the current address in the heart of Hackney Wick.

Howling Hops brew bold, modern, uncompromised, flavoursome, generously hopped beers. All our beers are unfiltered, unpasteurised and suitable for vegans. We still stick to our early philosophy of ‘make some interesting beer’, although not every one is different these days. We have a core of 4 beers that we brew regularly, a couple of beers we brew seasonally and every 3 or 4 weeks we brew a different single batch beer.

Cask at the Cock Tavern, London. Pours clear, rich gold with a fine, creamy head. Aroma holds some floral grass and ripe citrus. Light sweet flavor, quite fruity, with modest grassy bitterness, orange, dry lemon. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild grassy hop finish with light sweat, orange, papaya, pine, touches of earth. Lightly resinous. Great condition. I think this is excellent. Great balance and depth. Superb session beer.

Cask at the Cock Tavern, London. Pours deep brown with a creamy, beige foam head. Lactic chocolate nose, some roasted coffee, too. Light to medium sweet flavor with moderate roast, light char, ash, mellow dirt and earth bitterness, light baking cocoa, some raisins. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mild dry finish with good roasted malts, ash, burnt sugars, faint alcohol. So so, but I think you could easily do more at this ABV.

Cask at the Cock Tavern, London. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a light, white foam head. Straw nose some perfume, floral notes. Light sweet flavor with lots of strong perfume quality (which seem slightly out of place), flowers, grass, grapefruit. Light bodied with soft, fine carbonation. Faintly sticky finish with light, dry pine, grass, hay, lemon and other citrus. Aside from that perfume edge, this is pretty nice beer.
