Description
Steel City Brewing is a brewing company with a very new world outlook on life! Rather than buying our own brewery - with all the associated cost and hassle that entails - we have decided, initially at least, to become what's known in Europe as a "Cuckoo" brewery... We started off doing our first brews at The Brew Company, before capacity issues saw us move to Little Ale Cart, where we spent three years proving even the most Heath-Robinson brew kit can be used to make good beer! We then outgrew the kit moved to Toolmakers brewery, before moving again to Lost Industry in 2016.

When we started we were (and still are) huge fans of hops and there just weren't enough brewers in the UK using them, even though that sounds ridiculous in today's beer world. So, rather than moaning into our beer, we thought we'd do something about it and brew some of our own! Over time as the beer scene evolved, there was less need for our style of hoppy beers since everyone was brewing with them so we evolved too and widened our style portfolio.

High pressure can. Pours black, some light soda carbonation. Smell is sour, some citrussy notes, raisins. Fairly thin body, but not bothering. Low carbed. Nicely sour, something fruity which works well with the licorice flavours present. Fun brew!

Can. Beer Central Sheffield. Muddy cola brown. No head. Not a looker, especially. Nose has sweet rum. Bright citrus notes. Some light roast malt. Passion fruit purée. Bit of liquorice. Plenty happening here. Taste is semi sweet with a nice twang of dark chocolate and boozy bitterness. Some citrusy tartness. Smooth and easy drinking, especially considering the hefty ABV. Fine carbonation. Tart and fruity bittersweet finish. Works really well.

Can. Beer Central Sheffield. Mostly clear dark gold. No head. Nose has lactic acid. Some pale malt. Not picking up any of the fruit additions here. Taste has a pretty sharp sourness. Dry and acidic on the palate. Fine brisk carbonation. More acidity on the finish.

Can. Beer Central Sheffield. Mostly clear gold. Suds of white more or less disappear. Nose has sweet lemon. Lemon sorbet. Bright mineral. Taste is tart and unripe citrus sour. Dry and clean mouthfeel. Fine carbonation. Lingering tartness to finish. Nailed the lemony character but overall it’s too sour for me.

Draft at Roberto’s Bar and Tasting Club. Poured a clear dark reddish brown colour with little life. The aroma is oak and light cherries. The flavour is moderate sour, with a super dry, oaky, light tart cherry, warm alcohol palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Awesome.

Some super rare mead? Ok.. unfortunately, not that good. Seems like they forgot to ferment the honey, it's just pure honey water. Sweet, no complexity, no thickness. Not bad tasting, just very poorly made. Itty bit of maple.
