Description
The Hanging Bat beer cafe opened on Lothian Road in Edinburgh in 2012. Since then it has become the major place in the city to try out an eclectic mix of craft beers.
We also have our very own brewing area where our brewer makes the finest ales, you won’t find these ales anywhere else in the world.

330ml can, via Beer52; BB August 2024, drank in Devon at my dads on 19th January 2024. Brewed and Canned at Newbarns Brewery. Hazy copper bronze body, white crust. Pleasant piney nose and initial taste, pretty hop bitter with a solid malt base, orchard fruit finish.

On keg at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - amber with a thin head. Nose - toffee, dried orange and dry biscuit. Taste - burnt toffee, fresh apple and more biscuit. Palate - light to medium bodied, lightly sweet and then lightly astringent. Overall - ok, a bit challenging.

330ml can - Pours a lightly hazed dark amber colour with a small diminishing off-white head. The aroma is malty and hoppy, caramel, orange peel and resiny hops. A moderately sweet and bitter taste, sweet malts, caramel, orange marmalade, pine and resiny hop flavours with a bittersweet finish.

Roast and tons of bourbon. Black pour with ok mocha head. Sour whiskey finish. Not really balanced well. Tap at Hangings Bat.

Aroma: floral, grains, cider and yeast. Taste: yeasty and cidery. Light bodied. Crisp mouthfeel. Next one please!

On cask at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - brown with orange chinks. Off white head. Nose - malt loaf, toffee, praline and roasted hazelnut. Taste - praline, toffee, hazelnut and boiled cake. Raisin, mince pies. Palate - medium bodied, creamy and light sweetness. Overall - good.

On keg at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - golden snow clear, thin white suds. Nose - lemon, floral and biscuit Taste - lemon, crisp apple and bready. Palate - light bodied, balanced bitterness from both malt and hops. Overall - very nice.

Cask at the Hanging Bat. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas of sour caramel. Taste is light acetic and toffee. Light sour finish. Not sure this is at its best.
