About
For nearly twenty five years, our mission here at Smuttynose has remained the same: to brew the best beer we can in a way we can be proud of. That includes honoring New England’s rich beermaking history, respecting our environment, and playing an active role in our community.

We value creativity, quality, authenticity and sustainability, but it really boils down to making great beers to enjoy with friends and family. We hope you love drinking our beers as much as we love brewing them. Cheers!

Cask at GBBF 2017, day 2. Pours clear amber-brown with a light, creamy tan head. The nose holds dried, lightly tangy leathery furits, berries. Light to medium sweet flavour with more leathery fruits, a little woody dryness, toasty bread. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Subtly sweet and tangy in the finish, with minimal booze, toasted wood, more berries, orange peel. Nice.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Appearance is mild hazy, light brown/dark orange with minimal sparkle, finger-width off-white foamy head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is caramel and rye malts, earthy bitterness, mild candied sugar. Taste is as aroma. Palate is medium bodied with slick texture, soft-to-average carbonation, rye spiciness and mix of malty sweet and hop bitter finish. Overall, malt presence is more reminiscent of APA but is good. Balance is present and rye adds interesting feature, as always.

12 oz pint on draft at Portsmouth Brewery. Aroma is light malt and decent citrus hops. Flavor is light malt, moderate citrus, and still noteable lager yeast hints. Light bodied with fine carbonation. A bitterness is here yet balanced pretty well.

If you golfed 18 holes and used golf as an analogy this would be par for the course.

From old tasting notes. Cloudy orange color. Thick bubbly tan head. Earthy toasted malt aroma hints at caramel apples. Zesty complex bittersweet malt flavor is reminiscent of brown sugar, figs and hazelnuts. Bitter hop finish makes this ale full bodied and complex.

On tap at Hayseed. Pours a hazy murky grapefruit juice without much of a head. Orange and lemon with bits of earth and pine in the nose and flavor. Tasty but not my favorite from them.

Very soft and dangerously easy to drink. Caramel, toffee & bread for days. Light herbal hop bite. Very light alcohol burn. Good stuff!

Not really a common at all, strictly speaking, in flavor. Probably why it’s good. Lots of orange flavored hops. Relatively bitter. Bottle.
