Description
Robbert Orano started White Pony. He is a home brewer with Belgian roots. He has a great preference for craft beer and heavier Belgian beers. The White Pony brewery makes beer in an artisanal way, unpasteurized and unfiltered. And bottles the beer with respect for the old tradition. But all this is done with an innovative view of the brewing process.

Clear brown colour, creamy yellow head. Malty aroma, yeast, caramel, light candy and candy sugar. Sweet malty flavour, caramel and candy sugar. Sweet finish, malts and caramel. Not bad, but not overly exciting either.

Bottle @ ZZT8:BBT1. Hazy copper with a medium white head that doesn’t last. Smells herbs, malts, sweet, nuts.. Typical Belgian strong ale smell. Tastes sweet, raisins, alcohol.. Too sweet for me. Full body, soft carbo.

18/VII/13 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel @ John's place - BB: IV/17 (2013-654)
Clear red brown beer, small aery beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of chocolate, weird spices, celery salt, mocha, cocoa powder. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice chocolaty start, caramel, bit sweet, but then overripe fruits and rotten vegetables. Is it a bad quality of malts, or yeast giving this dirty taste? It's also often in (cheap) brown Wallonian beers... Atertaste: overripe fruits, banana, caramel, something seriously off, bit spicy, sugary and dried fruits. Nope, didn't like it and neither did anyone else at the table...

27/VI/13 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel @ Klaas' place - BB: V/17 (2013-579)
Little cloudy deep red brown beer, aery light beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: overripe fruits, bit spicy, caramel, something nasty, rotten, sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: caramel, sugary, some banana, bit smoky, bitter, rotten fruits. Aftertaste: unpleasant bitterness, caramel, sugary, banana, alcohol noticeable. We were with 5 experienced beer drinkers, and nobody finished the bottle, notably the first beer of the evening. You know, when people are still thirsty for more.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como; batch A, bb 12/2017
Cloudy red-brown color with generous head, and nice perlage; the bottle was slowly gushing. Aroma of caramel, soap, rubber. Malt and caramel flavor, full bodied, with a round but overcarbonated mouthfeel; there are hints of nuts, vanilla, candi sugar, rubber; correct bitterness, with a touch of sweet liquorice in the final, very light yeast, and warming alcohol; the final is a bit dusty too.
The Belgian character is quite true; it doesn’t fly though, it still needs to be refined.
(note: despite being self-defined Barley Wine, it’s a Quadruppel by taste)
