Description
It all started with a neighbor sharing a homemade beer. Liz saw how excited Jamil was and bought him a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. Jamil became obsessed with brewing the perfect beer and became a homebrew legend in the process by winning a first-place medal in every known beer, mead, and cider style category. Eventually, his passion to brew was too strong and Jamil and Liz decided to take the plunge and open Heretic Brewing Company.

We started by sharing a building with another brewery in 2011, but we always brewed our beer ourselves. Within the first six months we realized there wasn’t enough space for two breweries in one building, so we began the search for a new place. By 2013, we had built a new, modern brewery in the wonderful city of Fairfield, California and moved all our operations there, including our new distillery.

On tap. Pours with a clear copper hued body with a large, fluffy, off-white head. Aromas are huge pine, tropical fruit and lightly dank hop notes. Bready and biscuity with a bit of crystal for the malt aroma. Flavors are tropical and very dank. Pungent and fruity, pine, papaya and some noticeable alcohol. Strong and distinctive CTZ hop flavors. Medium to lively bubbles. A bit of a harsh, grassy dry hop note to the flavors. Dry with a medium body. Good! Apparently it has columbus, warrior and citra in it. I liked it quite a bit more than the twin.

On tap at Naja’s. Hazy dull straw colour. Thin head. Well, not really impressive on the nose - spicy specialty grain aroma (rye, oats, etc) and fuggley hops. Spicy, oaty, minty palate with light hops. The body is a bit thin, there is perhaps not enough residual malt sweetness. Not really a table beer, and not as interesting as I wanted it to be.

Tap at Beer Revolution. Decent little Belgian. Some band-aid, grain, earth and a bit of funk. It’s a bit too sweet with mildly toasty malt. It’s a bit middle of the road feel is a bit watery. It drinks easily, though, and would probably go well with food. It’s good but not terribly special.

On tap. Pours with a hazy golden yellow body with a lasting, creamy white head. Aromas are dry, grainy, estery, clove and pepper phenols, light funk. Tropical fruit notes (pineapple) that could be either from hops or Brett C. A lightly grassy and citrusy hop character. Flavors are dry, spritzy, lightly bitter and crisp. Light earthy and woodsy notes, light funk. A noticeable lemon/sorachi ace character in the finish. Medium bubbles, dry and crisp. Very easy and enjoyable to drink.

Draft. Amber beer with a low off-white head. Light bretty aroma. Light brett flavor with earth, light grain, and light citrus. Medium bodied. Earthiness and light brett lingers with light grain. Very drinkable, but kept focusing more on what I felt was missing than what was there (big earthiness that might need a bit of something mroe to balance).

On tap. Pours with a clear brown to amber body with a lasting tan head. Aromas are big time citrus hops, chewy, pine, simcoe, caramel and light coffee. Flavors also show a bit of a coffee roast note, hoppy, citrus, pine and toffee. Sort of a soggy malt/wet dog note (odd). Medium bubbles, dry, slightly bitter balance.
