tap at the brewery - Pours dark brown to black with a nice thick head. The aroma is roast malt and the flavor has that good maltiness with some coffee notes. Itโs a little light for a stout, fairly good overall but not great.

tap at the brewpub - I find it interesting that this one is rating as high as it is so far. The commercial description sounds good, but to me it tasted like a fairly typical blonde ale. That is to say it was a light flavor and while not as ridiculously thin as some beers, it was still watery. The aroma, flavor, and finish are all light. Itโs not bad, but thereโs not much to really say.

Side by side on the Laid Back Brussels Tasting (Feb 9, 2008) of both Batch 1 and Batch 1 PH1. (Points for PH1)
Batch 001 PH1Clear, orange body with a fizzy white head. Sour aroma of citrus, wood, orange, bit vinegar, aspartame, ... Excellent aroma, very hanssens (geuze) like. Heavily sour, lightly bitter flavour. With the first sips, I noticed some camembert flavours, afterwards more fruit (apple), wood, ... Quite complex flavour. Very nice. 9/4/9/3/18 = 4.3
Batch 001 Clear, orange body. Fizzy, white head. Aroma of citrus, wood, little bit of vinegar. Not as intense as the PH1. Moderately sour, lightly bitter flavour, but not as fruity as the PH1. Very nice, good balance, but the PH1 is better. 8/4/8/3/16 = 3.9

Bottle from Odeed;Batch 001, Nose of tartness and you can hint the oak barrel; clear gold with a small but longlasting white head; flavor of tart apples and grapes and a little citrus malt. I have had additional Batch 001 bottles over the years including a glass from a 9L Natalie was pouring at the RR 5th (?) party and everytime it has been wonderful. A couple years ago I drank my second to last 375. Now a rating on the last Batch 001 375. Nose is hints of green apples and Asian pears with light bits of oak and white winey notes. Crystal clear gold with no head at all, looks like a sherry wine.. Flavor is wonderfully smooth with fruitiness and very slight sour note, which has seemed to smooth out and partially disappear over these years. Next update will be when I imbibe my 3L Batch 004.

LCRBM2. Thanks to Phil_l for bringing this back from the States. Gorgeous sourness on the aroma. Very sour, but rounded in mouth, some toffee, then great balanced lemon sourness on finish. Good beer. Would like a whole bottle to myself for a better description.

A hazy orange beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is lovely hoppy with notes of alfa acids and oranges, as well as light floral notes - A hop soup aroma. The flavor is sweet with alchol, that jumps at You right from the start with a slight burning sensation on the tongue, but it is soon acompaniet by strong hoppy notes, and a bitterness that sets in much earlier than in other beers and grows more and more powerful. Acompanying the bitterness thereโs also a note of grapefruit that grown in intensity. The body is very powerful.

750 ml bottle Batch 002 Nose was tart with a small apricot note; Hazy yellow-gold with not much of a head; the flavor tasted like it was reminiscent of an apricot or apple wine vinegar; no body to speak of; nothing like the Beatification I rated last weekend!

Cloudy dull amber. Big oaky, leather aroma with hints of grape, peach candy, old cheese. Really tart. Very leathery, oaky, a bit grapey flavour. Lively body. So dry and flavourful, very gueuze-like, but the carbo is a shade too high to bring out the best in this beer. PH1.

Thanks to Odeed for this bottle - pours a slightly hazy golden color with a well-retained, foamy head - complex, earthy aroma of orange peel, banana, apple, vanilla, some yeast and pastry-like sweetness, and a subtle funkiness in the background - very soft on the palate - mildly sweet up front, with all the fruits from the aroma making appearances - this is followed by some medium-dry, herbal and hoppy qualities - a mild vanilla and clove flavor throughout - peppery finish, with just a hint of alcohol warmth arriving quite late - this is a great beer.
