Draft at Max’s Belgian Beer Fest 2014. Very muddy brown color, flat, an ugly beer indeed. Nice aroma of vanilla and plums. Taste is boozy and sour dark fruit and cocoa. A lesser beer than the original.

Draft at Max’s Belgian Fest 2014, courtesy of ajax25g, thank you sir. Maroon color, beige head. Aroma of sour plums and vanilla, subtle cherry. Taste is sweet and sour plums, dates, raisins, cherries. Reminded me of the old Rodenbach Alexander. Nice stuff.

Draft at Churchkey. Cloudy pale yellow color, white edge head. Aroma of lemony vanilla with a subtle edge of funk. Taste is smooth vanilla, citrus, subtle white pepper and stone fruit. The barrels change this one quite a bit, but it’s every bit as tasty as the original.

Draft at Churchkey. Muddy amber brown color, tan edge head, not a pretty beer. Aroma of vinous port wine. Taste is an odd combination of vanilla, red wine and whiskey that clashed a bit. Overall effect is less than the original.

First Zymatore I’ve had, and it’s certainly nice. Pours a hazy golden. Actually has a very wine-like taste rather than the whiskey barrels they were aged in. A little sour apple cider aromas as well. I like the way this comes toghether - makes for a nice beer. Tap at Rustico.

Tap@Birch. Pours opaque black with a small brown head that dissipates quickly with good lacing. Aroma is weird, roasty, floral, chili peppers, some oak. Flavor is light sweet, light plus tart, oaky, roasty, cocoa powder, tart cherries, floral notes, light spiciness lingering as a bit of burn on the finish. Medium body.

Tap @Birch. Pours opaque black with a medium brown creamy head that dissiaptes slowly with good lacing. Aroma is a bit odd actually, light peat, burned malts, green apple. Flavor is much better, lightly tart green apples, some roasty notes, oak, light astringency, drying mouthfeel. Full body, creamy. Interesting and hard to describe.
