Description
For over 20 years, Arcadia Ales has been committed to a British Inspired – American Brewed stable of beers. We aspire to brew beers that achieve brilliance through balance – ales that satisfy the senses with complex flavor while providing pure refreshment that leaves you wanting more.
In 1996, our first 25 barrel batch was brewed on a Brick Kettle Brewing System from England at our Battle Creek, MI location. Fast-forward – today every batch is produced in our 50 barrel American-made brewhouse at our Kalamazoo Riverfront Brewery, Pub and Garden. Our 20th Anniversary in 2016 ushered in a new era of brewing possibilities with the installation of two new 100bbl closed fermentation tanks giving us the ability to use new yeast strains while we continue to brew classic Arcadia Ales using our distinctive, proprietary yeast strain in our traditional, open fermenters. The ability to brew with new yeast strains opens up the Arcadia Brewing Company portfolio of offerings, allowing our brewers to be creative in ways that were not previously accessible and broadening the scope of beers produced. With these changes, we still keep our promise to use only the finest domestic and English malted barley, along with the highest quality hops available from the Pacific Northwest and Michigan.
Admin Note: Formerly named Arcadia Brewing Co. In the spring of 2014, Arcadia completed a new production facility in Kalamazoo, MI. The Battle Creek facility closed in 2016. The company ceased all operations in September 2019.
In June 2020, the Superfluid Supply Co. division of Short's Brewing announced its purchase of Arcadia's beer brands and intellectual property. Whitsun Ale was the first release with plans to resurrect other recipes in the future as well.
Admin Note: Short's confirmed in 2024 that they have fully retained the Arcadia brand. They still hold the rights, but there is no plan to continue brewing Arcadia beers.

Dark brown, hazy. The aroma is coffeeish and fudgey with demerara notes, molasses and a wood hop background. Rich hoppy-roasty flavours with burnt toast accents. Finishes with an intense molasses sweetness. I’m glad I had the chance to revisit this brew.

This has one of the coolest looking pumpkin beer labels I have observed. When you pour you get a swirling hypnotizing tempest from the gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Pour it properly like a n unfiltered dunklewiezen. Has a rolling stream of fine bubbles coming from within this light crazy hazy iced tea appearance. Taste is spicy but not quite as bitter as most pumpkin beers I’ve tasted lately. Does coat your tongue with an almost Oktoberfest inference. The spices are a little difficult for my palate in any pumpkin beer, but this is probably one of the better ones so far, overall it lacks the bitter medicinal taste on the finish. The spices somewhat remind me of the heavily spiced american wheats.

Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 15. Pours dark brown with a red hue and a lacing light brown head. Alcohol heavy and sour nose. Flavour is slight sour, malty, toothpaste, slight off. Slight roasted. Alcohol warming finish and a persisting slight off note lingering on top of a malt flavour.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Pours a dark brown with a vague reddish hue and a beige head. Lightly tart aroma with bourbon notes showing. Medium body, lots of roasted malt and sweet vanilla. Dried fruit and weak touches of bourbon before a subdued bitterness. If this was infected - which I don’t really believe - then it was in a most spectacular way! 070907

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of over ripe fruit, berries, and bourbon that sting in the nose. The flavor has notes of wood, bourbon, vegetables, on a slightly acidic back ground - probably from very hard roasted malt, which is what the finish is dominated by. The alcohol burns sligthtly in the mouth and warms up the cheeks.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small head. The aroma is dark chocolate and roast malt. It’s sweet to the taste and chocolate continues to be the dominant theme here. With a name like Cocoa Loco, that’s not exactly a shock. Medium bodied and finishing with some light bitterness, this is a good quaff.

Pour is a jet black with a small than head. Aroma is a very nice roasted malt and chocolate quality. Flavor is at first chocolate then a little coffee and then the smoke hits you. Not smokey to the extreme but its there in a good way. If you have had a bad beer by this brewer don’t pass this one by its quite flavorful and robust.
