Description
Une Anneé, an Independent Craft Brewery, was born, in 2013, on the near west side of Chicago, with the quest of making fine Belgian inspired ales for all beer lovers. Founded by architect and Chicago native, Jerry Nelson, Une Anneé, has expanded it’s offerings over the years with an emphasis on fruited and unfruited American Wile Ales and Barrel Aged Stouts. In 2017, the brewery moved to neighboring Chicago suburb, Niles, IL and expanded to include a taproom. The working brewery in the background lends a hand to creating a laid back atmosphere where you can sit back and enjoy some of your favorite craft beers on tap.

From Good Times Oakland. 2023 canning.
Unclear deep amber/red, short lived "head" of foam.
Aromas of sour cherries, little bit of Brett, with a taste of sour cherries, Brett, sourness seems to intensify the more I sip. Very dry aspect to it.
I dig it

I was fortunate to get a 16 oz can from Half Time earlier this year. Generally I have liked the Une Annee Belgian-style beers I've tried, so let's check this one out. Cooled off, not cold, I tilt the can into my Chimay glass to see an amber-caramel brown body and a rather spare ring of tan-silver foam. The smell is unequivocally cherry, I cannot smell anything else. With a sip I can tell that the concentration of cherries is diminished somewhat, there is also bread, cane sugar and a firm malt backbone working through. But still plenty of cherry flavor. Not a beer I would seek out again but, hey, it is a quadrupel and I have plenty of appreciation in that.

Poured up on tap at Tipsy Cactus where it exhibits a faintly hazed deep gold colored body that supports a thin near white head. The aroma offers up bits of yeasty pear like esters, pineapple and then a touch of guava. The taste delivers similar notes with apple to pear like sweet fruity ester, sweet pineapple and then thin lemon citrus hop bitterness. It ends with the occasional welcomed yet thon cracker maltiness that helps to counter the sweetness. Overall this ends a little heavy and sluggish. Good beer, subpar Kölsch.

From a can. I like this brewery and this beer is solid. Bright pink with foam. Yeast in the aroma and the flavor is sour with raspberry. they hit a sweet spot as this is very much like a raspberry lambic.

Hot damn guys what are we doing here and where did this come from? Never heard of them so this is my first beer from the brewery and they've really put together a real quad! Brownish, hazy, small head. Nose gives lots of darker fruits, fig. Brown sugar. Very faint phenol. Flavor similar, with a big bruised fruit sweetness, mild efferverscence carries to a lightly spicy (and also tannic?) and lightly boozy finish. Plenty of dark fruit notes abound, sugar and spice and everything nice. It's maybe somewhat less complex than I'm letting on (certainly less complex than Westy 12) but they've really hit the mark here.

Leans heavy into the pineapple, lacking the watermelon a bit. Extremely tart, and a little funny. Another great, albeit unusual beer from Une Année.

(Keg at Pikkulintu Puotila, 20241121) The beer poured amber and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness grass, Belgian style yeast and toffee. Palate was medium bodied with alcohol warmth medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, toffee, caramel, Belgian style yeast, grass, alcohols and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy, malty and bitter. A decent malty brew with spicy yeast.
