Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

300ml vom Fass at the café in Konzerthaus Berlin. Light, straw coloured body topped by just a filmy layer. Mild floral hops to the nose. Dry hoppy flavour in interplay with pale malts. Dry bitter endnotes. Smooth in the mouth. A standard classical German pilsner. Refreshing after Ein Deutsches Requiem (Berlin, 22.11.2009) (Rating no.2800).

300ml vom fass during a stadtrundfahrt in the restaurant of the Berliner Fernsehturm where the beer was served at a fine drinking temperature. Deep, mahogany body. Film-type layer. Firm roasted, almost burnt, aroma of dark malts. Brittle malty flavour with a caramel touch and hints of tart berries far beneath. Medium bodied. Good, however a bit boring in the long run (Berlin, 20.11.2009).

300ml vom fass at Berliner Fernsehturm Restaurant. Just the right place and the right beer to start a few days visit to Berlin. Clear, light straw coloured body with a tiny white head leaving spotty lace on the glassware. Gentle aroma of pale malt. Pale malty flavour with a grainy touch. Dry citric aftertaste developing into a bittersweet end. Smooth oily palate. Medium bodied. Very refreshing. Prime example of the style (Berlin, 20.11.2009).

At a tasting, many thanks DSG, about 25 to 30 years, no head, murky light orange, aromas of cider, dried apple and vinegar, strong flavour of sour apples, with some metalic notes, light sourish aftertaste., very tart which feels exactly right for this beer. Would be excellent on a summer day, here in the middle east.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel, as well as light notes of straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and straw, as well as light notes of hops, leading to a lightly bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle. About 20 years old. Sweet vinous and citric aroma. Almost like a good oud bruin. Cloudy yellow colour. Almost no head. slightly flat, not much carbonation left. The flavour is OK citric, quite lactic, but no more than a fresh one.

Draught at Zur Letzten Instanz, Berlin, Germany on 28th September 2009. Dark ruby with pale brown head. Sweet with a few roast barley notes which are the main "accent". A sweetish finish on a fizzy mouthfeel. Some fruity notes, mainly of berries.
