Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

29/10 A 0.33 l bottle a friend brought from Berlin, huge thanks, Danchy! New style for me! It poured very pale, totally blurred body with smaller head that didn’t stood up too much. Vinegar sour aroma, very simple and not really something pleasant. Flavor was sour, but not too much, watery, slightly lemony and bready. Really thin in body, which is nothing strange for such a low ABV. Astringent mouthfeel. Very short finish reflects the flavor, some lemon is felt. I expected some wheat character, estery notes. It’s really a weird beer style.

Hazy purple with a huge pink head. Very sweet aroma with artificial black currants and bupple gum. Extreme candy sweetnes hit my tongue along with artificial black currants. Somewhat dry finish. Pity to ruin a Berliner Weisse like that. I bet a nice one would have come out using sour natural berries and loads of lacto. Yeah!

Bottle from Berlin courtesy of and shared with heavy whose friend brought it from Berlin (huge thanks!) A new style for no. 1500 :). Poured a hazy pale ochre, not really appealing, medium sized white head that went away fast. Tart aroma, corky maybe, slightly eggy, you can immediately tell this is going to be sour. Weak taste that’s acidic, but not as extreme as they can go. That’s almost all there is to it.. lemony a bit, even slightly bready underneath all that. Actually drinkable in a way but I’m sure that there are far better examples of the style.

Bottle. Golden with a decent white head. Sweet, malty aroma with some tired hops. Flavour dominated by sweet corn with an industrial, bitter finish. The worst beer of my trip to Berlin.
