Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

330ml bottle. Golden in colour with a moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of spice, bitter fruit and grain. Light, almost watery mouth feel with grapefruit and banana leading to a dry finish. Tasted alongside the Kindl Berliner Weisse and came off worst on all fronts. Inoffensive and dull, almost like a watered down hefe weizen.

33cl Bottles, Landré and Groter Jan, both 25-30years old, very kindly shared by DSG, thanks Barak! Both beers were very similar imo. Unclear golden amber colour, no head. Aroma is fruity, sweet, light sour funkiness, a hint of bandaid. Flavour is sour, funky, a bit watery, a bit chemical, dry and light fruity sweetness. Sour finish. The Groter Jan was a bit sweeter, more sour and more funky in both aroma and taste, slightly oxidized. Both beers were light bodied and very refreshing, after all those years. I don’t like really sour beers, but this was just the amount of sourness I like in a beer. Very nice.

Bottled (BB 06/2010). In Berlin. Golden color, small white head. Grainy nose with a bit weird yeasty twist. Similar flavor. Sweet malty, grainy, odd yeasty notes. Aftertaste has some light hoppy bitterness.
