Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

1970s bottle shared by MaxxDaddy via that German guy. Well it poured ugly and looked ugly, old, dirty yellow with no life to it. Looked like aged mahogany milk. Its old but its a berliner weisse, so it was drinkable despite the oxidation. Its light, easy to drink with just a faint pinch of lacto at the very end. Not much to say, its an old Berliner Weisse, which is not like an old Barley Wine but nothing like a fresh wheat beer. I know I have mentioned a lot of what it isn’t but that represents how little there is to say.

500ml in a pottery bottle with a swing-top that was bought at Galeria Kaufhof am Alex in Berlin. Presented as a Weihnachtsbier. Shining, dark brown body with ruby highlights. Decent, off-white head fading to a patchy surface. Dark malty aroma with discreet notes of dark fruits. Toffee malts in flavour with a touch of chocolate and dark fruits far behind. Dry, noble hops to the ending to keep the malty sweetness at bay. Smooth drinking. Just alright on a lazy day back home (Tromsø, 03.01.2010).

Bottle at Loreley in Osaka. Cloudy dark gold color with almost no head. Interesting looking. Tart, lactic aroma with wheat and cereals. Grainy, nutty flavor; lactic and sour. Crisp, nice flavor. Light, smooth, and amazingly refreshing. Nice Stuff. With the green syrup, it gets sweet and herbal, not bad at the top of the glass but sweet and medicinal at the bottom. Best left out for sure.

330ml bottle, 4.8% abv, carried home from a shop on the air side of Schönefeld Berlin. Quickly disappearing, white head. Light golden body. Mild aroma of hay and pale malts. Modest taste of malts supported by notes of dried fruit. Smooth, oily palate. Half way pleased (Tromsø, 27.11.2009).

330ml bottle, 3% abv., bought at Schönefeld Flughafen Berlin. Hazy, green body. One-finger, lightly green foamy head. Prominent aroma of sweet almond. Almond extract in flavour with notes of herbs and lemon. Bittersweet on the swallow. Refreshing as a soft drink, very moderate beer feeling (at home, Tromsø 27.11.2009).

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, quite stable mid-sized off-white head; caramelly nose with a light acidity (no infection!) and traces of hops; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; slightly lingering solid bitter-sweet finish with a hoppy touch, completed by molasses and dried fruits. Nice Bock, quite well balanced.......
