Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Without syrup. Clear medium yellow body with an average sized white head. Funky sour aroma, soapy. Lightly sweet flavor is overpowered by the acidic sourness that lingers on the back of the tongue. Very thin palate, almost no body whatsoever. With raspberry Himbeer syrup. The syrup brought some balance to this and added complexity, sweetness and some fullness that it needed. The rating is for the beer without the syrup, however.

Bottle. Very dark brown colour. Big stable head with rather small bubbles. Flavour has a hint of liquorice. Aftertaste also has a very late not of liquorice. Not as malty or sweet as some other bocks, and not as tasty either.

Funky pink reddish color, big frothy head. Sharp raspberry aroma. Light astringency, covered by a sweet fruitness, too much candy-like. Very weak and short. Refreshing drink.

Cloudy scaring green peas color. I don’t know what Waldmeister is (a digestive?), but the aroma is very light, of herbs. Medium sweet, very light peppermint flavor, no beer character at all… Bad.

(bottle) Pale yellow colour with a small white head, quickly vanishing. Very fruity (citrus, apples) and wheaty aroma. Sour flavour, light bodied, thin textured, lively carbonated. Refreshing tart & fruity taste with a lasting finish, apple and wheat dominated. A good Berliner Weisse, but I prefer the one brewed by Schultheiss.

Pale yellow colour. Large, frothy head. Floral hop aroma. Thin and tinny but with a lingering hop bitterness that is really pleasant.

(Bottle 33 cl) 3,7% ABV in my version. Very pale golden, almost greyish, with a sediment. Very bubbly head that vanishes in no time - it’s more like what you find in a sodapop. Very, tart - almost like lemon juice. No real pleasure to drink Berliner Weisse in it’s pure form (or any other form for that matter...) 070605
