Description
It all started with eight visionary men who founded the “Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG” on February 1st, 1872 in Rixdorf. They established a modern brewery within one year, which was opened on July 19, 1873. The first public serving takes place on this day. In 1890 the brewery decides, as one of the first breweries in Germany, to brew a Pilsen beer. It is called - based on its southern German relatives - "Berliner Kindl". In 1910 the brewery is renamed "Berliner Kindl Brauerei AG". In 2006 Berliner Kindl returns to its former location in the east of Berlin. The entire range is now brewed in the Berliner Kindl Schultheiss brewery in Lichtenberg.

Waldmeister, "Master of the Woods," is made with a tiny (1%) addition of Woodruff syrup. This traditional herb was added to many Berliner Weissen. Sadly it's super sweet and syrupy here. Could barely finish it. Shocking to have two green beers in one week

0.5 l bottle from 'ProBierShop.com', best before June 2022. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a large, foamy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of raisins, caramel and nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite roasty and a little fruity taste of cocoa, coffee, toasted nuts, some caramel and traces of raisins, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter, slightly earthy, moderately dry finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid Schwarzbier, well-balanced and nicely roasty.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a slightly hazy pale straw with minimal white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma, just some traces of lager malts. In the mouth it is crisp and clean, but also quite sharp and somewhat watery. There’s some sweet chewy grains to be found if you search hard enough. A standard German lager – rather boring.

Trübe, extrem helle Farbe. Säuerlicher, an Sekt oder Most erinnernder Geruch.
