Small bottle, found in Moscow. These days this is the most common Zhiguly in Moscow. Dull amber, but lightly filtered. Smells a bit grainy. The taste is sweet, lightly grainy with a caramel and corn finish. Clean - this is not your father’s Zhigulyoskoye! Mostly just dull.

500ml bottle from a little supermarket by the railway station in Murmansk, shared at XIV Session in Tromsø 22.Jun.2011. Clear golden body. Caramel, leather, cheese and a light whiff of orange. Too carbonated and too sweet. The retro design calls for (n)ostalgia.

First U.S. rater. Wooo, rock n roll. A little history on this beer. Zhiguli beer or Zhigulovshi beer is an old-time Russian beer, akin to PBR or Schlitz in America or the Yugo. Its a nostalgia beer. This version is modern remake. In the database you will find numerous beers with a similar name. I got this in BROOKLYN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at a Russian store on Brighton Beach. The place is loaded with E. European brews. Green glass, 500mL bottle with a twist off cap. Skunked, grass, overly-herbal, dry, astringent plain Euro-mass-produced-green-bottle-lager. Three sips and the rest gets dumped out. Cost was 2 bucks for a tick.

500ml bottle airborne to Tromsø from Murmansk, thanks to Snegurochka. Cool retro bottle label. Film-like layer, clear golden. Cheesy dry malts to the nose. Russian (?) caramel malts in flavour. Hints of cardboard in the aftertaste. Soft in the mouth. Just about drinkable (shared at a session, 22.06.2011).

Bottle, courtesy of enjoyit. A clear, golden beer with a small, off-white head. Boring, sweet aroma with some corn. Rather fruity. The flavor is pretty much the same, sweet, corn-like and slightly fruity thing found in the aroma. Medium body. Caramel and corn in the sweet finish. Not the worst Russian beer I’ve had, but not worth revisiting either. 110129

Thanks to MrSoul for carrying a bottle from Arkhangelsk to a social gathering at Sommarøya Arctic Hotel. Crystal clear, golden body, decent white head. Sweet corn to the nose. Sweet pale malts in flavour. Dry ending. Clean tasting and possible to drink, but way too sweet (Hillesøy, 26.03.2011).

Bottle. Clear golden with a medium white head. Grassy hops aroma with some malt and vegetal hints. Flavor starts with some clean, sweetish malt and finishes with moderate noble hops bitterness. Medium-bodied. Not bad.
