Strong Pinot Noir aroma dominates this one. Piurs with beautiful mocha head and thick pillow of lacing. Aroma of sour cherry mixes heavy with wine barrel. Btetta works in nicely as well. Barrel taste slightly too heavy but thats only an imperfection. Otherwise very good. Sour finish. Thanks to the guys sitting next to me at the brewhouse for a taste of this. Bottle.

Not a huge fan of the idea of marketing this beer on a "smooth lager finish." Not that what they say is wrong - in fact thats just the problem. For a big beer this beer this comes off a little light on the palate. That being said its still not a bad drink. Starts with some nice musky roast malt. Some nut and low dose of dark chocolate. Bitter finish. Soft carbonation. Tap at brewhouse.

Nice, easygoing brown. Pours dark mahogany with decent lacing and head. Some roast malt and nut in aroma. A little hops, though minimal. Finishes a touch bitter with some sense of musk. Tap at new brewpub on the water.

(Draught at Barhop, Aug 1, 2013) Pours a quite cloudy pale yellow with a head of large white bubbles, some lace. Aroma is fairly subtle smoke, pale crisp malt and wet grassy notes, like a Belgian table beer beside a fire? More smoke character comes out in the palate, very dry and crisp overall, pale malt body, slight grain, light yeast sourness on an otherwise dry, peppery, smoky finish. Body is light, I found the carbonation high but not overwhelming, a little spritzy which helped cut the smoke. I am not always a fan of smoked beers, but in this one itβs handed with deftness and the dry, crisp character of the beer prevents the cloying sensation I often get from malty rauchbiers. Quite drinkable, and an interesting idea using vine trunks to smoke a beer.

A reddish copper (Bourbon barrel aged bw) with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet vinous malt with bourbin notes, treacle and light oxidation. In mouth, a sweet vinous malt with light fruity notes, grassy hops, light licorice, and loads of alcohol warmth, bourbon notes, very nice but rather Belgian.
