200ml pours a clear orange, cloudy white head.  Nose has orange, perfume, herbs, soap.  Flavor has that, citrus, perfume, herbs.  There is a very significant hand soap thing.  Finishes dry and lightly bitter.  7 3 6 3 12

200ml pours a dark brown with reddish edges and some lacey tan head.  Nose has malt, toast, some marzipan, some rootbeer.  Flavor has cola, malt, some pumpernickel, some chocolate, marzipan, chicory.  Finishes dry.  Fine.  Maybe lacking something.  6 4 6 3 11

Tap at the RSA Westport, pours a water brown with some clumpy, white head. Malt nose, brown sugar, crackers, brown bread, some dried fruit. Flavor is simpler, just malt and black tea mostly, maybe a little date. Finishes medum bodied.

330ml bottle into schooner glass. Bargain bin at BWS! $2! Smells (and looks) like a shandy I would've had as a kid. Pale amber with dissipating bubbly white head, light carbonation. Beery lemonade aroma. Fairly tasteless at first, then a finish of cardboard and lemon. Lingering lemon at the end. Easy drinking but sweet. Surprised to see it is 5%, gives it some body.

Bottled. A golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, spices, fruit, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, spices, and fruit, leading to a bitter finish .

From a 330ml bottle on 2/1/2019. Pours a clear deep golden with a small head. Smells more malty than hoppy. Tastes of biscuit malt, some orange sweetness, with some light grassy and herbal notes. Finishes with a gentle bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate to average carbonation. Mild and unexciting, but pleasant enough (and probably above average for a Monteith's).

On tap at Snug, New Plymouth. Crystal clear golden amber beer with a thin white head. Light carbonation. Very faint aroma of grain. Nice lacing. Full bodied, smooth with a light effervescence. Finish is short with some grainy bitterness and late sweetness. Not bad, perhaps a little too sweet for a Pils.

Ginger in the aroma. Dominant ginger flavor, with orange. Thin to medium bodied. Sweetish. Tonic. Fairly well made, but I just don’t like ginger.

Deep dark brown, almost black color. Apple juice, syrup and a bit of roast in the aroma. Just a hint of tartness. Roast, apple and pear in the sweetish flavor. Thin to medium bodied. A taste bomb.
