Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

Tall can pours with a clear gold body that showcases a copper colored core and supports a thin light tan head of foam. The modest aroma offers up grapefruit and nectarine hop fruitiness as well as some pine, grassy and spicy hoppiness. The taste delivers a pleasing and balanced bitter hop depth with pine, grapefruit and spicy lightly earthy onion like hop bitterness. Around the periphery of the bitterness is a mild sense of juicy citrus hop flavor. All in all, a pretty nice IPA.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a near pitch black color with a medium beige head. A pleasant roasty nose, coffee. Rich, coffee, roast, vanilla, some creamy mocha. Really surprised by this, 6% isn’t small, but the flavor here is huge. Maybe a bit unbalanced toward sweetness, but that is fine. Lovely bitter roast finish. Great!

Bottled. Yellowish golden colour, small white head, which disappears quite fast. Aroma is sweet malts, citrus, some nectar, mild grapefruity notes as well. Flavour is quite similar. Yet quite smooth as for the carbonation.Wellbalanced and refreshing. A bit heaver than the previous APA we had from the brewery.

Bottled. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is honey, some nectar, mild grass, fruity and floral notes along with some sweet malts. Flavour is nectar, tropical fruits, some wood as well as mild sweet malts. Pleasant and quite smooth. Nice and fresh and this would be very nice to have on a warm summer terrace.

Bottle from Elizabeth Station, Bellingham, WA; 8.3% ABV
Hazy golden to light amber color. Nice aroma, quite original, cereals, soup, orangey hops. Lean mouthfeel, just moderate amount of sugars; bready and grainy malts, but not sticky, and easily overwhelmed by the extreme resiny hops.
Between old school and modern, the result is very good.
