Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

12oz can from Brewers Haven. Cloudy golden pour, robust white foamy head. Aroma brings hoppy notes and caramel malts. Taste delivers a classic hoppy bite, like a time machine back to the heyday of the American IPA. Piney, bitter, citrus, earthy. Hits all the right marks for me.

Can from the Nugget Market in Woodland, CA. Pours hazy gold with a huge creamy/foamy white head. Aroma of citrus, including grapefruit. Med body or better. It's juicy but not excessively sweet. Flavor is lots of citrus and grapefruit zest seems part of it. Light malt support. Moderately bitter. Very pleasing.

Can from Nugget Market in Woodland, CA. Pours lightly hazy gold with a large creamy white head. Aroma has citrus and something like strawberry - not kiwi tho. Med plus body. It's juicy and lightly sweet. Also a little astringent and moderately bitter. Flavor is tropical - persian melon and citrus with something like sucking apricot pits. Rather mellow.

On tap at CopenRoss, Boise Clear deep chestnut pour. Thin light tan head. Clean and smooth and toasty. A little sweetness and a smooth finish. Drank it a little too cold though probably.

Can from Fred Meyer, Everett, WA; tag JAN2823, ~2 months old; 7% ABV
Hazy golden colour. Some aroma of citrus peel. Off-dry, some wheat/oats flavour, wet paper, light chalk; balanced bitterness, there is a light touch of juice, bit overall the hops are not very expressive; a hint of piney resins in the finish is pleasant.

Can from Fred Meyer's, Everett, WA; Feb 18, 2 months old
Clean blond colour. Mild malt and hop aroma. Good body, lean mouthfeel, light residual sweetness; nice malt base, mellow, blond honey; the hopping is not particularly aromatic, but it has some resinous element, some candied fruits, and balanced bitterness.

Bottle (well out of date) from Craft Beer Oasis, Crewe – drank at home. Pours golden amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma has bitter oranges mixed with traditional hops plus some underlying malts. Lots of bitterness in the mouth, hops mixed with resinous pine with just a hint of tropical juiciness. Finisah is very dry and sticky. This is what an IPA should be like.
