Description
Ridgeway Brewing was established in 2002 by master brewer Peter Scholey (former head brewer at Brakspear) and his wife Vanda. The name comes from the ancient trade route that winds its way through English countryside between small towns. It has been around for thousands of years, adapting with the changing times, The reason why we chose the name Ridgeway, apart from living on it, was that we hope to create lasting experiences, believe in the long term and love the outdoors.

Bought by Crafty Brewing in February 2025.

Transluscent dark brown color with reddish hues. Small tan head. Wonderful sweet roasted malt aroma of coffee and treacle. Wow, this is really good! Complex dark malt flavor with notes of dried fruit, licorice, root beer and molasses. There is an unlying hop character that balances this stout nicely, but the malt is the real star here. The long flavorful warming finish is sublime. This truly is a World Class Stout!.

Pours light copper into a shaker. White head quickly recedes to skim surface leaving slight lacing. Slightly sour aromas. Crisp and well balanced with upfront caramel and a dry, bitter hop finish with medium retention. Didn’t see any yeast in the final pour...sparkling clear.

1 pt 9 fl oz bottle thanks to brewfiend! Pours black with a little brown head. Roasted malt aroma, slight chocolate, dried fruit and whiff of liqourice. Light to medium body. Dried fruity flavour with an underlying and persisting malt flavour. Finish is malt dry, not much bitterness just a lasting malt flavour. Nice with a not too heavy stout which has it’s benefits.

Aroma of floral hop. Golden color. The head quickly filmed. Medium bodied, with gentle, fine carbonation. Starts with malt, always accompanied by floral hop. Arguably a little citrus. The finish is bitterly delicious with enough malt to balance. It is just marvelous. Seems very underrated.
