Description

Originally the Sailerbrauerei was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1544. After a long history 1967 is considered to be the decisive point in the history of the brewery. In that year the master brewer Gerd Borges and his then wife Gertrud, née. Sailer took over the management of the brewery and made the brewery a great success. After 36 years Borges decided to sell the enterprise. Since 2003 Sailerbräu and the brand Altenmünster Brauer Biere became through the Allgäuer Brauhaus part of the Radeberger Gruppe.

(swing top bottle) Clear and pale golden colour with a big and slowly lacing foamy white head. Dusty and sweet mallty aroma with alcohol and shy traces of hops. Sweet malty initial taste with a dense banana-like fruitiness, soft carbonation, only medium to light body. Slim and moderately sweet malty finish with a light bitter and alcoholic note. Unspectacular but fresh and easy going and therefore quite “dangerous” Maibock according to its high ABV.

Swingtop pint bottle from Foremost Liquors, Oak Forest. Well, it’s been a rough evening: a toilet overflowed upstairs, filling the globe of a light fixture downstairs. Plumber snakes it out, I bleach two rooms and do lots of laundry. Now I can just settle down with a real "old style" beer poured in a straight .2 l Stiegel glass. My first steinbier. Didn’t think it’d be smoky, but what should I have expected with this method. Pours nice brown with gold in narrow part oif the glass. Tiny floaties visible in the glass. Smell is smoke, but not bacony like Aecht Schlenkerla. A nice caramel nose too, under a thin clingy head. Smokiness returns in the tasting; like a smoked Edam cheese. Malts are like caramel wrapped around campfire marshmallows. Just enough bitterness to keep the sweetness in check. Lots more particles toward the bottom of the glass give it something of a campfire flavor. Too bad this isn’t date-stamped; I wonder how old this one is and how it changes over time.

Bottled. Clear reddish-brown with a large beige head. Malty and nutty aroma. Flavor is a bit disappointing, just some light, sweet maltiness, with a hint of roastiness. Nice body and sweet, malty and hoppy finish. (051231)

Swing-top bottle: Dark amber coloured, thin fluffy off-white head, slowly diminishing; faint malty nose with a tinge of molasses and alcohol; shy sweet-malty start, quite dry malty body; finishes dry with a malty-veggy aftertaste and a very shy bitterness. Drinkable, not great........;too "tasteless"!

(Bottle 50 cl) Slightly hazy pilsener golden with a small head. Very malty aroma. Full and rather potent body with the heavy alcohol shining through. Sweetish malty with a short, dry finish. A decent Maibock. 271105
