Aroma: Floral with a vegetable notes.
Appearance: Hazy golden body with a medium white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing.
Taste: Very metallic with a grassy, green vegetable flavour. I’ve got a feeling there’s Nelson Sauvin in this. Bitter finish.
Palate: Medium body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Nice prickle on the tongue.
Overall: Floral and bitter with an unusual vegetable flavour. For me, it’s not as good as their Red Ale.

Bottle at home in London. Pours black-brown with a strong, beige froth head. Aroma holds modest roast, some juicy citrus, burnt pine. Light to medium sweet flavor with some earthy roast, burnt sugars, dried citrus, dirt, charred wood. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, some dry roast, some lemon, orange. It’s a decent black IPA but it could use some more teeth.

Cask at The Rake, London. Pours clear, red-gold with a fine, white foam head. Nose holds some ripe grapefruit, grass and toasted leaves. Medium sweet flavor with leafy bitterness, light pine, slight onion and pee. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly sweet finish with toated bread and grass, some leaves, light dirt, ripe and lightly dank citrus and mild pine. Decent IPA.

Snooty Fox, 75 Grosvenor Avenue, Highbury, London, Greater London England N5 2NN.Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, nutty, malty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, nutty, malty, hoppy, good balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120114]

Cask (gravity) @ 28th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2011, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, EnglandClear dark black brown color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, spicy, chrsitmas spices - ginger - allspices - nutmeg - clove - cinnamon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, spicy, dusty. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. IMO to spicy for me * 6-2-6-3-11

Taste: Very hoppy but balanced by sweet malt flavours. Maple syrup, toffee and pine resin with a subtle plum note. Bitter finish.

Overall: Impressive balance between sweet and bitter flavours.

Cask at CASK with Sarah. Pours a near black with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of strong roast with a good amount of coffee backed by a hint of dark grains. Flavor has a nice roasted malt note with supporting notes of coffee, light smoke and dark grains.

Bottle at home in London. Pours dark brown, somewhat clear with a strong, creamy beige head. Aroma holds some enticing roasted malts, a bit of dirt, milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with a rich, pronounced chocolate character, some baking cocoa and milk chocolate, mellow burnt wood bitterness along with some earth and dirt, subtle pine and toasted leaves. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish with dry, roasty bitterness, light minerals, hefty and true chocolate notes. Very nicely rounded beer. Good chocolate, good bitter/sweet balance. Nice work.

Cask at the Southampton Arms on 2nd October 2012. Black with thin tan head. Roast malts and berry fruits in aroma. Rich grapefruit and coffee in-mouth, with the two working well together. Fine citrus finish with some earthiness and plenty of roastiness. Medium body and slightly grainy mouthfeel.
