Dark brown in colour with a strong ruby highlight when held up to a light. Thick tan head that stays for a while, and the whole beer looks like a Root Beer Float! Smells of malt, a bit of candy and some macro-brew funk. Medium-bodied; Malty taste (on the sweeter side) with hints of candy, a VERY small amount of fruit and a bit watery. Aftertaste only showcases a bit of the malt and nothing else than that. Simply a beer that isn't in the top flight. Not a great beer for the style, and not one that I would buy again. Try beers by the 'real' brewer: Anderson Valley and you'll like those MUCH better! Pass this one up for something else! I bought my twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Perfumed aroma. Completely black, bad head retention. Burned coffee aromas, which are comepletely overwhelmed by flowery hops. I am not too thrilled about the balance. Medium body and a aftertaste which slowly turns into something soapy and nauseating.

Unusual and somewhat humorous marketing strategy behind this beer but otherwise, this is a nice American Pale Ale. Firmly bitter with spicy hop flavors and aroma. Enough malt to keep it balanced. Very drinkable.
