Bottle. Pours with a lightly hazed copper hued body with a medium white head. Huge dank aromas, citrus, resin, sweet, floral, pungent, grapefruit, sweet, caramel, alcohol, hops, mild esters. Really fresh smelling (should be as it is brand new). Flavors are off. Plastic, wet dog, bad malt, medium bitter with lots of tangerine. Soapy and detergent like. Pine. Very soapy, dry, light vegital. Lively bubbles, medium bodied.

Draught at Devil Craft. Fruity, metallic nose, hoppy, light citrus. Cherry and metal flavors, light citrus, light caramel, and an interesting fruity gumball aspect. Rather German in malt flavors. Decent.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma of sweet booze is strong. Some light vanilla. Touch of dark rum. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit (like cherry and plum), vanilla, chocolate, light rum, treacle, and perhaps light maple. There’s a lot going on in here; there’s even a light sour note (very light). It isn’t very sweet, feels like it’s going to go dry, but it doesn’t. When I try, I think I can find astringent oak. Heat is not an issue. This is either a complexly marvelous blend or something of a mess. I’m seeing mysterious graphics in the smear left after the head left. This inspires me to affirm this is a complexly marvelous blend.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Hazy deep amber. Fruity malty aroma with a bit of hops and a bit of cardboard. Sweet malty flavor with a very bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

22oz bottle labeled as Hop Mania #4 pours up clear amber with copper hues and off white head. The aroma offers up some stunted pine hops, earthy citrus fruit peel and then it rolls into a bit of boozy heat and dark fruity esteriness at the end of the draw. The taste starts somewhat hop neutral and a little malty for a moment and then it picks up muted blunted pine hops. To midway the pine hops move into resiny notes just as orange and lime peel and slivers of sweet malt are noticed. It stays tart with citrus hops as well as pine hops into the after taste. The level of bitterness is pleasing in this one.

12oz bottle pours clear copper with light tan head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, some malt roastiness, a bit of nuttiness and then slivers of sweet dark fruity esters with some tingling spicy hops and molasses. The taste is similar with more malts than I was expecting with some decent malt roastiness, a bit of biscuit and then it flows into clean spicy to earthy to a bit pine resiny like hops. Into the finish some grainy malts make an appearance as do a bit of sweet dark fruity esters. Pretty nice level of hops that seem to be at about equal strength to the malts plus esters.

Unexpected bottle 2 of evening. Pours deep brown with thin head. Nose of toffee and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, bourbon, figs, plums, cola, earth, soy sauce, and cherries. Nice carbonation and sweet finish. Pretty decent offering although just a touch too sweet or it’d be excellent.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy light amber with about 3 fingers of frothy head. Aroma of caramel, citrus and a little dark nut. Taste is light bitter. Citrus, caramel and nutty flavors. Medium bodied with a somewhat slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I would gladly drink this one again.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating (some time in 2009 though). Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger light khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some slight lacing on the glass. Aromas of plum, fig, date, caramel, molasses, biscuit, toasted malt, nuttiness, light chocolate, clove, and yeast spices. Some nice and well balanced aromas with good strength and complexity. Taste of big prune, fig, caramel, molasses, toasted malt, biscuit, chocolate, nuttiness, clove, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of dark fruit, caramel, molasses, biscuit, chocolate, and light spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity; with no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a nice creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Very smooth to drink for 7.8%. Overall this is a very excellent brew from Shmaltz. Nice complexity and balance; and very smooth to sip on. I really enjoyed this one.

Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a cool early spring Tuesday afternoon. Appearance a cloudy amber with a rich off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma mostly of caramel / bready malt, not really getting many hops. Taste is also more malty than hoppy, more of an amber ale than a pale ale. It’s OK.
