I kind of like this beer - a fairly clean german lager, with a decent dose of hops, and a lot of natural pepper flavor, without a great deal of heat - granted, there isn’t much to the beer outside of the peppers, but that odd vegetal character you get in a lot of pepper beer is absent - it’s just clean, drinkable, and good with food - not bad.

Tap at the brewpub - lightly hazy gold - a decent IPA, with a lot of fresh hop flavor to it - however, there is a relatively high sweetness, reminiscent of honey, and the bitterness gets a bit astringent at times - basically, this is a flawed ale that has enough good hop flavor to make it drinkable.

On draught at the brewpub. This brew is a brownish-orange color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of burnt malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, sweet caramel and a touch of dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a bittersweet chocolate and hops aftertaste. Decent all around.

On draught at the brewpub. This beer is a dark brownish-black color with ruby around the edges, and a medium off-white head that lasts awhile. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Mild roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Medium, smooth body with a subtle malt sweetness and notes of cocoa and roasted coffee. The finish is a little flat with a roasted malt aftertaste. Barely average overall.

Picked up a can of this in a mix-a-six - what do you get when you brew an OFest with ale yeast? - apparently, you get an amber ale, because that’s what this tastes like - not a bad amber ale, though, just a wee bit boring, as most amber ales tend to be - some bready malt and cereal grains eventually make way for some drier malt character that compliments the eventual hop bite at the end - refreshing, medium-bodied - fairly clean - no discernible flaws; it’s just boring.

tap at the brewpub - Pours dark amber with a small head. It has definite oak in the aroma along with sweet malt. The flavor also has lots of oak over caramel malt and moderately strong hops. It’s full bodied with an oak and hop finish. Did I mention there’s some oak here? You better like it if you’re going to have any chance of liking this brew. Fortunately I do. Very tasty.

cask at the brewpub - Pours dark brown and smells of smoke and roast malt. It has a smooth, sweet, smoky roast malt flavor. I think it’s just a little too light on flavor, but still good. It’s medium bodied this being the cask version, lightly carbonated.

tap at the brewpub - Pours near black with an aroma of roast malt and lactose. It has a sweet and milky flavor that carries right into a fairly sweet finish. There’s a light to medium body and in my opinion needs more body. There are some good flavors there, but it’s a little watery too.

tap at the brewpub - Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Smells of roasted malt with nothing else really standing out. It tastes of roasted malt with mild hops and a touch of coffee. This medium bodied brew has a good, full flavor and finishes with lingering roastiness. Nice brew.

tap at the brewpub - Pours yellow with a small white head. It smells like chili peppers. Shocking, isn’t it? A chili beer that smells like chilis. It also tastes like, duh, chilis. The beer itself is a light flavored and bodied brew and the chili flavors really dominate it though manage not to be completely overwhelming. It’s not my thing, but it still manages to beat the hell out of Cave Creek.
