Description
Ölvisholt Brewery is a microbrewery located at an old dairy farm in south Iceland, near Selfoss. It was founded in the year 2007 by two neighboring farmers who had a true passion for beer. This passion is the not-so-secret ingredient in all the beers Ölvisholt brews today.

An old barn was re-purposed to house the small brewery and this is where our skillful brewmaster conjures up some of the best beers Iceland has ever produced. Right from the start the aim was to produce beer of a quality that Iceland was not used to, thus starting the popular microbrewery trend that now is evident in Iceland. The popularity of the microbreweries makes sure that everyone at Ölvisholt keeps pushing themselves to the highest standards of quality and entrepreneurship.

You can find our beers in all premium bars in Iceland and Vinbudin, the government run liquor store. In addition our beers are exported to USA and Sweden with more countries lined up to experience our beers in the months to come.

On tap at the ChurchKey, DC. A thin light tan head on a near black body. A big rich nose with smoke, ripe berries, a touch of cream caramel and booze. The smoked malt leads the taste profile, with toffee, some bitter coffee, dark berries and that boozy warmth. A very dense rich body. Taste thins out relatively quickly though.

Old rating from 27-07-15 - 330ml bottle brought back from my trip to Iceland, poured carefully, but there is still a massive foamy head. Golden orange in colour with a white head that eventually settles down. Aromas of caramel & malt. Tastes of caramel and strong alcohol, not very well hidden. Feels overly carbonated, might explain some of the excessive foamy head. Passable, not something I'd have regularly.

Bottle at the hotel, Reykjavik. Aroma of toasted malt, lots of caramel, red berries, soft herbal note, hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Slightly sticky. Heavier than you?d expect for the ABV. Good Red Ale.

On tap at Micro Bar, Reykjavik. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, lots of sweet chocolate, smoke, some liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Not the heaviest Imperial Stout, but it’s smooth and complex with a subtle but effective smokey touch.
