Cask, half by air compressor dispense. Light brownish head over a very dark coloured body. Plain dark malty aroma. Flavour has got roasted grain and oatmeal up front, followed by hints of liquorice and flashes of dark fruits. Ends with bitter coffee notes. A little watery in the mouth. After this one we finished our drinking session at the fantastic Bow Bar with the delicious BrewDog Punk IPA, which has not got a separate cask entry [Edinburgh 13.11.2008].

The color is almost black. Mild aroma of roasted malt and cardboard. Soft mouthfeel (also because of the lack of carbonation), some roasted malt and chocolate flavor, not aggressive, with a hint of liquorice, yeast and cardboard. Not bad.

Deep blond color, creamy head. The aroma is very light and fruity. Sweetish malt flavor with light fruitness too, and a touch of honey. Simple but pleasant.

Hazy golden color. Light apple aroma in the beginning; still lightly fruity and malty later. Pleasant malty flavor, with a very light sourness that makes it more vibrant and some sweetness that is appreciated. Simple but enjoyable.

500ml bottle from Cornelius Beer and Wine in Edinburgh. Clear, dark golden body. No head, except a white top when poured into the glass. Aroma of malt and plums. The sweetness of anise is prominent in the flavour supported by whisky-like notes and earthy malts. Well bodied, but rather too sweet [26.10.2008].

500ml bottle from a wine store. Vanilla coloured head, slowly diminishing over a golden brown body. Plain malty aroma. Gently warming profile of roasted malts with a few hoppy flashes to the ending. Soft in the mouth. Medium bodied [Edinburgh, 25.10.2008].

500ml compact bottle from Villeneuvewines, Edinburgh. Amber-brown body. Great lacing on the glass from a beige head. Malty smell with hints of chocolate. Plain malty taste. Perhaps a bit grainy, and a bit spicy too. Rounded bitterness to the ending [25.10.2008]

[500ml bottle, gift from my wife from distillery’s own stand at the Henley Fair] Pours an amber orange with a large off-white head that slowly dissipates. Moderate carbonation. Smells sweet and malty. Head tastes very sweet. Actual beer tastes quite strongly of sour citrus with a sour whisky mash in there as well - in fact, an unpleasant sourness was my overall impression. Leaves a sticky, syruppy mouthfeel. Overall it’s pretty grim and hard to finish (apologies to my wife as it was her gift!). However, the high ABV still made me pretty merry and led to me dancing with my two year old daughter, which made her happy - so it’s not all bad news!

From cask at Standing Order. Pours clear and golden with small white head. Light sweet fruity and malty aroma. Flavour is sweet malty with whiff of fruity notes. Smooth into the finish. Light smoked too. Smooth and sweet finish. Nice one.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to hazzlenut brown with a slowly collapsing off-white head. Dry malty to breadish aroma with a light spice note coming through. Caramel malty flavoured with a dry breadish note. Mild roasted base flavour. Shows a light acidic roasted note towards the finish alongside a mild bitterness. Nice one.
