Typical German pilsner, bitter and grainy. Quite good actually, the Germans know how to do this.

Jever Pilsener, Flasche. - Strohgelb, blank. (Bearb. 15.3.2024.)

0.4 litre, on-tap in a lovely locals bar called ’Thomas Eck’ in Charlottenburg, Berlin on 17th Jan 2014. Very surprised I’ve never written about this Pilsner before: never mind, I’ve done it now. Comes the usual pilsner way: light golden colour, clear and bright with a snowy white head that refuses to stay very long. The nose is herbal and grassy with a trace of citrus. In the mouth it is dry, crisp and refreshing, those herbal and grass notes in the smell also appear in the taste. There is an underlying malty base but the hops give the beer it’s flavour. Always been a better Pilsner than most, especially if you prefer a dry taste compared to some of the slightly sweeter ones.

330ml Flasche. Geruch herb, grasig. Geschmack startet bitter hopfig, grasig.

This is among those Pilsner beers that are really herbal. Clean spicy hop aroma accompanied by some clean cereal malts. Light to medium body. Lots of hops on flavour. Very herbal. A model north German pils.

500 ml. bottle picked up from a night shop in Cologne. Consumed at home. BBF 05/2014. Green glass, yay… Pilsner look, completely clear bright golden, some bubbles rising with a white head that sadly disappears very quickly. Grassy & floral hops in the nose, flowers coupled with some slightly sweet cornbread (it is a pretty enjoyable thing here) & yeast. Taste is bitter grass, green hops, floral, not hardcore in an USA way, def. more than expected, nice bitterness in a lingering way with some cornbread, starch & yeast sweetness in the back. Floral bitterness lingers, very easy to drink, this one was a big surprise. Really good, enjoyable, zero off-flavours, nothing metallic whatsoever, very easy to drink,.. Huge surprise, this is really great stuff, could drink a lot of this, I actually regret having only one bottle. Absolutely wonderful pilsner, the score on here is way too low in my opinion, why cannot all those pale lager wannabe pilsners be like this?

Aroma: typical german lager aroma. Looks straw with nice very white head. The head stays for a some time. Taste: some bitterness, but also watery. Finish is also watery with some lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation. Overall: rather boring german pilsener.
