Bottle. Clear pale amber with a white head that lasts well. Gentle aroma of hay, some toast, flowers, mandarins, light spices. Much punchier than the smell suggested, dry and spicy with firm toasty malt behind it. A little citrus too at the dry and fairly bitter end.

Orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet candied fruit, malty, citrus hops, too. Full bodied and quite smooth. Flavor is full of sweet fruity hops with a backbone of caramel malt. Nothing really distinguishes this from other pale ales, however it is a very well designed and well brewed beer. I could go a few rounds with this and boy.

On tap at Brew on Quay, Auckland, August 2014. Black with a small head. Quite a lot of coffee both in the aroma and taste. Also chocolate and some malt. I kind of liked this one.

Cloudy golden color with generous compact head. The aroma is very fruity, peach and mango. The body is not too thick, the mouthfeel is round, it has a nice malt base, moderately sweet, and good hopping, for once the hopping is more fruity than resiny.

Bottle from Craftissimo at home. Translucent amber pour with dissipating head. Aroma. Taste is maltier/sweeter than expected, tastes almost juicy. Hops are sharp, almost sour, and piney, deep bitterness. Very similar to the Tuatara APA in body, color, and maltiness, but different types of hoppiness, the Conehead tastes more complex - a lot going on for a 5.8% beer. Good!

Bottle at Hamilton during reunion. Pours hazy gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has crackers malts, light caramel, citrus essence. Medium sweet flavor with some pale bread, lightly faded hops, hay, grains, biscuits. Light bodied with average carbonation. Mostly sweet on the finish with further crackers sweetness, some grassy bitternesss, light orange. Simple and tasty enough.

500ml bottle at Brasserie V. Unfiltered orange-tan. Thin, patchy, oily head. Very resinous and oily, not the crisp tropical beer I had hoped for. Not bad, but in line with a classic brewpub APA, just a hint of hop variation. A decent enough beer, but it fails to capitalize on the NZ hops. The resinous oily feel dominates. Maybe old?
