Can. A clear-looking dark brown beer topped by a dense, beige head. It’s mostly roasted on the nose, with some dark chocolate. Pretty one dimensional, and that goes for the flavor too. Quite sweet for an Irish style stout, with roasted malts and some coffee. A touch of prunes chime in towards the roasted finish. Medium body, and a nice carbonation level. Well, it’s drinkable for sure, but too boring for my likings. 140228

A deep dark stout with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, smooth subdued chocolate malt with light coffee notes, grassy hops, light chalky character. In mouth, bitter chocolate with coffee grind, vanilla notes, smooth and subdued. On tap at Mill St Ottawa.

Pretty rough. Maybe it’s just that I don’t like the style. Pours cloudy orange without much head or lacing. Finishes too sweet, too much sugar with candied malt. No real body, average carbonation. Tap at Mill St. Ottawa.

Pretty good for style. Nice crisp malt with some evident saaz hops. Pours golden brown, darker than average for style. Slightly fizzy carbonation. Good balance. Finishes a little bitter as well with some light candied malt. On tap at brewpub.
