Bottle from the Ottawa brewpub. Pours a dark brown colour with a nice clean ruby highlight. Big beige head with average retention and minimal lace. Aromas of roasted malt very well-blended with hints of coffee at first pour. Then, some dark fruits come out (dates, raisins) with some grainy malts. No burning at all, hardly a warming... real easy to drink. Again, the nice roasted malt and coffee pairing. Apples show up in the finish and thankfully, not too sweet overall. A real nice, easy-drinking, matly Scottish ale.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, smooth caramel malt with nice overtones of dark fruits, grassy notes, plums and molasse. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel with grassy notes, dates, light mocha, well made.

A hazed amber ESB with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, nice caramel with loads of pungent grassy hops, piney and resinous, nice. In mouth, a sweet smooth grainy caramel malt, grassy hops, not bad. On tap at Arrow and Loon, Jan 17, 2012.

Aroma has vanilla, cacao. Pours a dark clear copper with great carpet lacing, good head. Boring and watery with a light cream consistency. Taste has light bitterness. On tap at Bar Hop.

Canette 440ml (Draught). De couleur noire et opaque. Nez de grains de malt rôtis doux, léger de chocolat noir avec des notes de noix grillées, de café, de houblon herbeux ainsi que quelques traces de chocolat au lait (faibles traces lactiques). Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement doux-moyen ainsi qu’une texture crémeuse azotée mais toutefois aux notes aqueuses. Petites notes métalliques azotées accompagné de notes de chocolat au lait (très faiblement lactique) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de malt rôti très doux avec un léger goût de chocolat noir ainsi que quelques traces de pain grillé puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux, un léger goût de café et quelques traces de noix grillées. Post-goût court-moyen, légèrement amer de rôti doux, léger de chocolat noir avec des notes de houblon herbeux et de café.

At the brewpub in Ottawa, 2012 Christmas edition. Pours a clean copper colour with a creamy nitro head that gives out creamy lacing. Big vanilla bean aroma with light roasted malt eventually appearing as the brew warms up. Nicely balanced between the chocolate malt and vanilla. Very mild hop in the finish with hints of caramel. Very easy-drinking, with a wet mouthfeel. The vanilla is present everywhere in this brew, and it smoothes everything. Wish this was available year-round.

I love fruity beers, but not sure if something was wrong with this one. Started off nicely with a clear ruby-purple-red colour and a small white cap that had minimal lacing. Beautiful nose of cranberry-raspberry juices, more on the sweet side. This is where things go wrong. The taste is way too mild, like really watered-down. Not any of the sweetness found in the aromas. Just a tiny little bitterness found in cranberries and then, a tad of sourness. All, with too much water. Not finding any of the malt others have tasted (and usually found in most Mill Street beers). Too bad.

Bottle: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt with light biscuit malt notes. Taste is dominated by medium caramel malt with a dryer aftertaste and some light chewy biscuit malt. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but came a bit short in terms of malt backbone.

This IPA poured a lightly cloudy, dark amber colour with a quick living, off white head. Scents include caramel, toast, grassy hops and a little rum. First sip was quite hoppy with flavours of malt, spruce and butterscotch. Finish is bitter with rum & butter flavour along with spruce lingering...
