Originally rated July 2006. New at the LCBO, pours a golden colour with lots of active carbonation. The white creamy-froth head dissipates very slowly and leaves pretty good chunky lace. The nose is big on grain malt and has a touch of sweet malt. Creamy and watery mouthfeel that is clean and crisp. Bread is present in the taste, with some mild corn and graininess. Slight bitterness in the finish. Great everyday ale, made specially for the mass-market.

Originally rated August 2006. Came in a 6-pack at the LCBO, and in clear small 215ml bottle. Quite cute ! Pours a pale golden colour with a small white head. Even though small, it stays a while to then form a 2mm layer over the brew. The nose is kind of different, but very mild. Some grain and light hop. Active carbonation and watery mouthfeel. Some light sweetness starts off the taste, and then comes to a grainy/corn finish. I get this flashback of chickpeas in the flavours. This beer is a good chugger after cutting the grass, but other than that... too light and different (organic). Much prefer their Tankhouse for a pale one.

Boring lager body with modest carbonation and at least a half-decent head. Aroma is of deep Belgium, in a bar near Brussels, in a steamy autumn morning as you pore over the menu for an obscure ale that you swear you heard was here. The flavour is an odd mix of green tea and sugar. Weird sour cloying finish. Extra points for a unique taste, but it’s not firing on all cylinders.

I heard of this Toronto place, but I didn’t know they made their own beer down there. It pours with a decent cloudy yellow body and modest head, good carbonation. Aroma is sweet wit-ness and a faint hint of detergent. Flavour is a good mix of citrus notes and wheat, but unfortunately the palate is a little weak. It’s all right as a "new world" wit, but has a ways to go to be a serious contender.

This is pale to the point of creepyness and the only thing making it look palatable is a half-decent head. The aroma is that ammonia-urine smell you get from the bargain basement beers. Flavour is a mix of cloying grain and sweet malt mixed together with a wet finish. I’d like to say this stuff is good, a cut above a gutter beer, but I’d be wrong by saying that. Sadly.

Tired this one at the Ottawa Bluesfest, two years in a row. Now it was time to review it. Pours a dark colour with a nice creamy off-white head that is long-lasting and has good lacing. Beautiful coffee smell turning into dark fruits as it breathes. Creamy mouthfeel, but not as thick as expected. Light bitterness with some mild dark fruits. Kind of a refreshing stout, being a little watery.

Bouteille 355ml. De couleur ambrée-dorée et claire. Nez épicé (gingembre, notes de pain d’épices), léger de grains de malt sucrés avec des notes herbeuses (herbes mouillées) et de pain. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement crémeuse et aux faibles traces huileuses. Goût assez épicé (gingembre, traces de pain d’épices) avec de faibles traces fruitées (agrumes) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un moyen-léger goût de grains de malt pâle avec des traces de pain et de caramel doux puis en finale l’on retrouve des notes amères de houblon herbeux (herbes mouillées, notes de gazon). Post-goût moyen, composé de notes amères de houblon herbeux avec un goût de racines de gingembre terreuses.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur ambrée foncée et semi-voilée. Nez malté de biscuits, léger de caramel avec des traces de toffee, moyen de houblon herbeux aux notes citriques, léger de fruits (agrumes) avec des notes épicées (poivre doux), de pain et de noix. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement crémeuse et aux faibles notes huileuses. Léger goût fruité (agrumes très douces) accompagné d’un léger goût asséchant de noix lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se ajoute rapidement un goût malté de caramel doux aux très faibles notes terreuses, léger de pain avec des notes de toffee et des traces de biscuits. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve une légère-moyenne amertume asséchante de houblon herbeux (herbes fraîches, traces de thé) aux notes citriques jusqu’en finale avec de faibles notes épicées (poivre très doux). Post-goût moyen et un plutôt sec, moyen-léger amer de houblon herbeux et légèrement citrique avec des traces de noix.

Bottle: Poured a light amber color ale with a medium foamy head with limited retention and not much lacing. Aroma of light ginger roots with lightly sweet caramel malt. Taste is also a mix between some ginger notes with some lightly sweet non-descript malt notes. Body is light with a spritzy feels with some medium carbonation. I can’t say I really cared for that one – seems a bit too middle of the road in terms of ginger offering.
