Bottle 2005 courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a slightly hazy deep amber color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry figs and raisins. Taste is quite sweet, maybe a bit too much for my liking, with some discernable trace of dry fruits with a small alcohol touch at the end. Body is above average but could have been more full. Alcohol is still well hidden for such a high-level of alcohol. Without being ultra complex, this is a well balance barley wine that I would drink again if it were available to me.

Beautiful red-amber color. Too cold, but then some nice caramel and hop aroma, comes out, a bit fruity and resiny. The body is a bit harsh, almost dry, even if not strong enough, with some caramel flavor and a good hopping. Not bad, but also not convincing.

Amber color. Balanced Amber Ale, with a good caramel character, quite bitter, malty, roasted touch.

A hazy dark orange beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy combined with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty and well hoppy, combined with notes of caramel, leading to a dry hoppy and bitter end.

Bottle #6626, 2005 vintage. Coppery body, medium creamy light beige head. Sweet, heavy aroma of caramel, candied fruits, toast, and abundant alcohol notes, plummy with hints of apricot juice. Somewhat raw and harsh. Sweet, fruity body with brown sugar, caramel, toast, plum, and a touch of cherry, bitter, medicinal finish with hot alcohol. Somewhat butterscotchy with soy and honey that seem to come along for the ride with high alcohol-yielding yeasts. Not as extreme as something like Avery Samaels Ale, but still a syrupy sweet malt-and-alcohol medley, and not the most pleasant one. Nevertheless, thank you blankboy for the bottle!

Bottle. Orange colour with a off-white head. Fruity aroma with some malty notes. Malty flavor with hints of caramel and hops. Dry hoppy finish.

2005 vintage. Red copper ale with no head. Sweet caramel and raisin in aroma. Dry malts in mouth, with light caramel notes, raisins, and pleasant floral hops. Smooth alcohol warmth. Nice canadian BW. Enjoyed at YEHa!05 Christmas Party on Dec. 17th, 2005.

An initially deep brown-black pour, which settles out to be a ruby-crimson tinged deep-mahogany body, with a light tan head, large, and receding, slowly to cover, with no lacing. Mostly clear. Aroma has a soothing, clear shot of a mocha latte. Clean and quite strong, without an intense bitterness or damp/composty note. Light vanilla touches and hints of light chocolate linger in the background, no hop apparency or yeast apparency that I can find. More or less a sweet, creamy malt and coffee aroma. The flavor is coffee up front, dark and flavorful, but not bitter and overly roasty. Through the middle there are notes of chocolate, toffee and light roast. As it begins to finish, a slightly muddled, composty/beany, old-coffee flavor takes hold. Some light astringency grows and it gets quite dry and almost bready. Peanut skins, nuts, light roast and more dry coffee beans on the finish. The body is medium, without any significant wateriness. Carbonation is low at this point, but the texture is slick and oily, gliding down the throat effortlessly and leaving vanilla, chocolate and espresso behind. A bit lacking on the beer qualities overall. It’s not that the coffee is overdone, the beer aspects (hops, yeast, malt complexity) are just underdone.

An orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet malty, while the flavor is more complex with notes of alcohol and malt, as well as a slight touch of hops - just enough to give it a dry hoppy end. The alcohol gives a slight burn.
