My first Spencer Trappist was their quad, quite nice. I got this 33 cl bottle of Oak Barrel Aged Imperial Stout heavy duty at a Total Wine in Houston this past June. Cool weather comes in, actually too cool to sit outside, so tasting inside in the music room tonight. The glass comes from an Austin brewery and receives the pour. Black as Hades with a pillowy head of dark tan foam. The smell is rich with berries, dark fruit, dark chocolate, grain and toffee. Hard to believe it is an imperial stout from the nose. As good as the scent is, the taste is an improvement. Chocolate, strawberries, burnt bread, black plums, a hint of tobacco, wood and syrup. The right amount of sweetness and a small bitterness at the end. The alcohol is covered by the taste. Really good, better than anticipated.

Gold pour. Thin foam. Lemongrass and citrus nose. Flavor is citrus, Lemongrass, and grass. Refreshing and delicious.

21 August 2021. At Gents Bierfestival. Cheers to the Ghent beer crew! Cloudy black, stable, frothy, beige head. Aroma of green apple (acetaldehyde), toast, mocha, chocolate sauce, brownie, prune, date, vanilla, brandy, Irish coffee. Taste has sweet date, prune & pear in a chocolate-malty body, hint of toffee; toasty & nutty edges in the middle with vanilla on top. Herbal hoppy finish, touch of clove, toast, dried fruits, and warming brandy alcohol. Medium to full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Very enjoyable but just a tad too young for me.

Light brown pour. Thick foam. Sweet flavor of vanilla and not too boozy. Nice balance and a palate of vanilla
