Description
St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labora (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach. The brewery, being far into the abbey's land, is not open to the public for tours or tastings.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours orange tinged gold with a moderate white head. Light pie spice aroma. Less than medium body. Light pie spice flavor. A bit of veg - guess they actually put squash in. Towards dry. Not really bitter, but the spice helps. Flavors are not very strong. It's ok.

Big pounder can courtesy of my daughter. Big orange can. Slight aroma of feet. Pour is slightly hazy pale with precipitants and floater. Smell lacks any pumpkin. Not a crappy mouthfeel. Somewhat spicy flavor maybe allspice. Says it has real pumpkin in there. Not bad, evenly spiced and well balanced. A little too much nutmeg on the finish. Not bad.
