330 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems & Zoon. BBF 09/2015. Small GUSHER. Hazy brownish amber with instantly gone head. Nose is sticky tree sap, very cloying Belgian with liquorish & light metals. Explosive carbonation in the mouth (infected?), bitter leaves, liquorish, cloying Belgian, brown honey, bitter nasty herbs, bark, way too much carbonation, faint mold, bitter old bread, cloying spices. Nasty bitter, wet leaves finish. Doesn’t work in my opinion. A dud. The bad kind of Belgian.

Strongish ’spéciale belge’ made for the museum in Leuven dedicated to Rogier Van der Weyden, since 2009. Snow white, stable head, orangey amber colour, lightly hazy. Dry character with restrained fruitiness (gooseberry, orange peel), nutty malts and peppery and spicy hop bitterishness, smoky and sourish touches too, grassy, thirst-quenching finish. Well-made example of its style.

Recommenced after Sublim was replaced by Traagwater, with a slightly amended recipe. Creamy, stable, thick, snow white head, yellowish peach blonde colour, hazy. Rather weak aroma of apricot, dough, honey, straw, iron, grassy hops. Dried fruits in the mouth, bit grainy, soft maltiness too, grassy hoppy finish with some gin-like, warming but not astringent alcohol. Oh well, just another tripel and only a very slight improvement compared with the Sublim version, which had a little more sourishness to it. eerst droog fruitig, mals, moutig-graanachtig, afdronk grasachtig hopbitter uitvloeiend met een jeneverachtige alcoholtoets.

Graal version, commissioned by Sublim which has meanwhile been replaced by Traagwater. This one had a delicate, sticky, off-white head and hazy, brownish amber colour. Lots of nutty and caramelly malts in the nose, peach, melon, banana, pear, candi sugar, pepper, ginger, marzipan, cocoa, cinnamon, lemon peel. Fruity taste with a light sourish accent, then becoming fully nut-like malty, light sweetish, powdery yeasty palate, spicy notes, mild hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque hazy orange color, full sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, a bit sweetish, some herbs or spices. A bit fizzy carbonation, decent body.

Thx! to Kraddel. 33 cl. bottle sampled. Hazy orange, small whit head. Smells of toffee, iron, metals, candied apple and sweet caramel. Taste is a bit off-putting for me, bitter metallic, herbal, cinnamon, lingering metallic taste in your mouth, plaster, BE yeast. Medium yeast body.

33CL bottle at Cafe Belge in Leuven. Hazy amber colour with a small white head. Hoppy aroma, low/medium carbonation and a slight bitter taste. Overall a decent beer.
