Tap, at 471 Kalamath location. Gold color, not much head. Not really much flavor in this one, though did detect some malt. I thought my glass had been dirty, but first tasted same as second. Nothing special.

Bottle. Small head on top of dark brown body. Moderate nose has aromas of burnt malts, chocolate, vanilla and plastic, a combination not all that enticing. The sweet vanilla is up front in the flavor, but there is also a moderate bitterness in the finish and an undertone of malts. Midly acidic. Medium body with watery texture.

Pour is a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is faint but there is some roasted malts giving off a chocolate aroma. Flavor is a bit better. Some chocolate and toffee with a nutty and vanilla aftertaste. Pretty decent.

Draught at Flying Saucer, San Antonio, 2006-12-23, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Hazy amber color, creamy head, nice lace. Very nice aroma of hops, with resins and fruits. Good malt taste, full mouthfeel, with very good resiny hops, and long final.

Bottle, 2006-09-08, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Copper color; generous head, thick. Mellow aroma, malt and fruity hops; medium strength, elegant. Good body structure, good malt, good aromatic bitterness; pine needles; grapefruit fruitness. The final is long and quite strong, with sweet caramel and hop, some resins. Humble IIPA, fresh; interesting end enjoyable for being so balanced between the sweetness and the bitterness.

12oz bottle from Crosling, drunk on 9/2/06. Not sure of the age.
Very deep red-clay body has copper-orange highlights and a very high clarity, though the liquid looks very thick/viscous. Off-white head is flimsy, receding very quickly to partial-cover/ring and then nothing, in a matter of seconds. No lacing left behind. Sporadic, large bubbles drift lazily upwards. No sediment on the bottom.
Munich malt in the aroma pretty much overlays everything. Bready, lightly acidic sourness seems at odds with the clarity/crispness that these citric hops would like to deliver. Dry, thick, pine resin sits on the end and in between there is a touch of cherry and orange fruitiness. I keep getting an odd, almost chalky, dull/bland note, maybe the wheat (not that I would have guessed that). Whatever it is, it seems mainly stale, like preliminary oxidation. Candy sweet malts seem to outdo the hops, and in the end, I’m left with a large amount of sugariness, growing stale and finally bready and sour/acidic with hard pine and raw citrus.....
Seems like most of the bright/lively hop flavors have passed out of the flavor, as this is a syrupy-sweet, thick, cloying mess of a beer. Pine acidity, with dry orange-rind bitterness and an old, leafiness are all that are left as far as hops. Hard crystal maltiness produces caramel and candy flavors, while the munich malt keeps things sourish and bready. Forced carbonation is large-bubbled, not engaging and exacerbates the syrupiness. I think Nick is paying me back for the Nashoba Valley Peach Lambic ;)

Poured a murky orange color with a semi-thick white head. Fruity, hoppy aroma. Initial flavor is citrus, sweet and a little syrupy. The finish is great, very clean and not at all astringent like other imperial IPAs. Not as hoppy as other small batch IPAs but the flavor is just as smooth.

Pours with a clear gold under an average sized white head. Fruity malt and hop aroma and flavor. Some bitterness build towards the finish. Not bad, but this doesn’t venture out of the ordinary.
