Served in a hurricane/tulip glass at the brewpub. Has a thick brown foamy head, which takes a while to subside. Aroma is thinning alcohol and wood. Its very prevalent and overwhelming. The underneath stout is just some dark and roast malts. Flavor is dominated by a barrel leafiness, alcohol that thins the flavor is most prevalent as well. This covers up the rest of the beer. Its cool to drink but I wish I had more Impy Stout and less barrel. The mouthfeel is thinned out compared to the bigness of the brew. I liked the regular version a lot more.

Growler at the Lawrence HB guild meeting. Specs: 2-row and 5% wheat. Eleven pounds of Nelson Sauvin hops throughout the boil. The beer is a slick colored golden. The beer is all hop, again that fresh cut melon and acidic New Zealand wine. Hops shine, medium-low bitterness. Even though the malts are not centered there is a bit sweeter, syrupy quality that I would like reduced. Not bad, not sweet, I would just like a more attenuated malt character or maybe pils malt as opposed to all 2-row. I could smell that fucker for a long while.

Glass from a growler purchased at the brewpub. Pour is black, with some cola colored brown and ruby. There is a one inch tan head that falls pretty quick. Aroma is roast malt, along with a touch of dark chocolate, perhaps a bit of vanilla. All is somewhat faint. Taste is the roast malt, a bit of char, and then finishing with the minimally sweet dark chocoalte and vanilla. Nice flavors. Palate is medium bodied, dry flinty finish. Decent porter.
