Description
Yards has been brewing Philly's beer since 1994. We’ve grown from a garage-sized operation in Manayunk all the way up to our current location at 500 Spring Garden Street in Northern Liberties. And we couldn't have done it without your support through the years. Our beers always have and always will be brewed, bottled, kegged, and canned for the hard working people of Philadelphia and beyond.

Dark amber w/a finger of foam; Aromatic elements: currants, nutmeg, flowers, caramel apples, hops - northdowns maybe?); similar palate, great yeast notes; complex, flavourful, lovely stuff.

While rather uneventful under normal conditions, Yards Saison improves BIG TIME after a year in the cellar. So much complexity, yeastiness, peppery-malty flavours and barnyardy acidity, it's hard to believe that it's the same beer. Give it a year and see what I'm talking about.

Basically a light barleywine. I was lucky to taste a 2 year old (1999 version) keg of it - and its held up nicely. Alot of malt, of course, but its heavily hopped enough to keep it balanced. Very smooth.

Definitely funky in a Belgian way. Has plenty of the malt sweetness of a dubbel, yet without the complexity of the best ones. It also has the dry finish, spiciness, and strength of a tripel.

Not what I expected. Not sure what flavor elements the oysters add, but this is nicely sweet, strong and full flavored and exceptionally smooth going down.

Light yellow color, a little pale. Medium head. Clean nose, emphasizing mostly malt. The flavor is heavily bitter with minimal hop flavor (or aroma). Malt presence and body on the lighter side of the style. A little unbalanced.

One of the better light colored ales using nitro for that thick creamy Guinness like body and head. It has enough hop presence to show up through the creaminess. Unfortunately, I don't care much for those smooth creamy beers - I prefer an assertive bite.

A very interesting beer, though possibly not a successful one for Yards, as I hear its being phased out. The cross of english pale ale hoppiness with pilsner hop flavor is certainly interesting and actually quite good - it perhaps just didn't catch on.

This weighs in at a whopping 8% ABV, but you'd never guess my tasting it. It has the intense hop bitterness (this is highly hopped) of a good IPA, but no high alcohol taste at all. These guys know how to make beer and this is as good an example from Yards as any. Intensely floral and somewhat fruity aroma.

As they claim - its a rich dark beer. It has the rich maltiness and full body of any of the best oatmeal stouts I've had. Also a nice hint of bitterness. A very good beer. Pours a little too bubbly - then has little head to speak of.
