Slightly hazy golden coloured body with orange highlights and a super-thin white head that fades very fast. Aroma of corinader seed, curacao, alcohol and some white grape juice. Medium-bodied; Strong spiceyness up front fading into just a little malt and some curacao. Aftertaste is very quick and only shows some of the bittering spices. Overall, a decent attempt by an American to make a Saison, but not even close to the definitive beers of Fantome. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 17-December-2004.

Hazy golden blonde coloured body with a SUPER-THICK bubbly white head. Way too much carbonation-this could be an over-yeasted bottle...but this isn’t pleasant to drink it one sip at a time. Aroma of lemons, yeast, wheat (wierd) and fresh hops-smells like it will go right through you! Light-bodied; Super carbonated, strong hop flavour with a good malt backbone and plentiful coriander seed and pepper spice to deal with in the palate. Aftertaste shows some bubbles still and a lot of bittering hops-pretty neat for the style. Overall, I thought this was more an IPA than an APA, but my bottle seems a bit over carbonated compared to others? I sampled this twelve ounce bottle (after holding onto it for 3 months or so) purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 15-December-2004.

Medium amber with a huge tan head. HUGE, I say. How can I drink this? Waited forever for that head to go away. Aroma is hoppy and slightly fruity. Flavor is manily bitter with losta hoppiness. Much too carbonated, as the froth in the mouth detracts from the drinking experience of the beer... and finding a defined flavor is nearly impossible. Low points due to the inability to enjoy this beer.

Paid $1.50 for a 12-oz single. Golden with a nice head. Smells like beer-tent beer. Flavor is grassy and sweet. Plain.

Real hazy/muddy burgundy/brown coloured body with almost no head at all! Aroma of grapes, malt, raisins and some caster sugar. Medium-bodied; Roasty malt taste, fairly watery with some mild sweetness and a metallic bitterness. Aftertaste shows some lingering alcohol behind with unpleasant maltiness. Overall, not a good beer, but worth trying! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 27-September-2004.

Dark amber coloured body with a large tan head with some dark specks. Aroma of pit fruit, caramel, malt and a slight amount of fresh english hops. Medium-bodied; Full english hop bitterness in the taste with malt and caramel running through. Aftertaste strong and malty with the english hops still strong! Overall, a decent bitter to good bitter, worth trying after so long! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 28-August-2004 on the Easterns Shore of Virginia.

I picked this one as my 6oz fil. Very nice in all respects. I didn’t know it was a solid 8%abv...If it was available locally to me, I’d stock up for sure.

I am not a big fan of Yards in general but this was solid. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-golden color with a large yellow-tan head. There is a pleasant fruity and yeasty aroma. The texture is thick. The flavor is malty with a slight sour hop presence. The beer turns dry and malty on the finish. Overall a decent tasting and well crafted basic ale. I would certainly drink this one again.

The old saison was ok, bu the new one is much better. +++Sampled from a 12 oz bottle it poured a dark orange-yellow color with a small white head. There was a little bit of sediment. The aroma was light fruit and spice. If I had tried this blind I would have been certain it was a Belgian wit from the aroma. The beer was heavily carbonated which is always a minus in my book. The flavor had a surprising amount of hops to it. There was also some spice and citrus but the grapefruity hoppiness was still the most noticeable thing. The finish was bitter. In the end we have here a "saison" that smells like a wit and tastes like a pale ale and manages to do neither particularly well.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of mint, floral hops, pine, malt and a small amount of sugars. Medium-bodied; Light-flavour, some hops, mainly floral with some offensive pineyness. Aftertate hoppy, but shows some malt. Overall, VERY nice to try, a decent IPA...not great though! Many thanks to Phil for bringing this twelve ounce bottle up for me to try!
