Dark amber coloured body with a large tan head with some dark specks. Aroma of pit fruit, caramel, malt and a slight amount of fresh english hops. Medium-bodied; Full english hop bitterness in the taste with malt and caramel running through. Aftertaste strong and malty with the english hops still strong! Overall, a decent bitter to good bitter, worth trying after so long! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 28-August-2004 on the Easterns Shore of Virginia.

GABF 2004:
I picked this one as my 6oz fil. Very nice in all respects. I didn’t know it was a solid 8%abv...If it was available locally to me, I’d stock up for sure.
Best regards,
Bill

I am not a big fan of Yards in general but this was solid. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-golden color with a large yellow-tan head. There is a pleasant fruity and yeasty aroma. The texture is thick. The flavor is malty with a slight sour hop presence. The beer turns dry and malty on the finish. Overall a decent tasting and well crafted basic ale. I would certainly drink this one again.

The old saison was ok, bu the new one is much better. +++Sampled from a 12 oz bottle it poured a dark orange-yellow color with a small white head. There was a little bit of sediment. The aroma was light fruit and spice. If I had tried this blind I would have been certain it was a Belgian wit from the aroma. The beer was heavily carbonated which is always a minus in my book. The flavor had a surprising amount of hops to it. There was also some spice and citrus but the grapefruity hoppiness was still the most noticeable thing. The finish was bitter. In the end we have here a "saison" that smells like a wit and tastes like a pale ale and manages to do neither particularly well.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of mint, floral hops, pine, malt and a small amount of sugars. Medium-bodied; Light-flavour, some hops, mainly floral with some offensive pineyness. Aftertate hoppy, but shows some malt. Overall, VERY nice to try, a decent IPA...not great though! Many thanks to Phil for bringing this twelve ounce bottle up for me to try!

Very dark brown. Straightforward porter – toast, coffee, molasses…a tad wet body. Decent malt development but not nearly as interesting as other historical re-creations like Flag Porter.

Very dark brown. Creamy roast aroma - quite nutty, with light toast. Body borders on being too thin, which combined with overprickly carbonation and lack of head makes me wonder if the bottle conditioning was such a good idea. Roast barley acidity starts off, leading to a bitter middle - more toast than nut. Finish is quite dry, a little butter note and the everpresent nuts. Lingering roast but still seems thin.

Thanks to dberger624 for sending me this. Blurry amber color with a thin off-white head. Very thin lacing. Mostly hops aroma with some malt. Flavor consists of hops, citrus and some malt. Actually there was more malt in the flavor than in any IPA in recent memory. It didn't hurt the flavor at all though, and actually made the finish more subdued than in most IPAs. The jury is out as to whether that makes it more complex or more boring. Maybe both. Either way this was decent.

Thanks to dberger624 for this fine ESB. This one has all of the good attributes any decent ESB should have. Pours a rich amber color with a somewhat foamy off-white head. Thin lacing. Sharp hops aroma. Nicely austere flavor that is both crisp and gratifying. Bitterness is not too harsh but it is definitely there. More complex that a lot of ESBs and I appreciated that.

Thanks to urbnhautebourg for providing this beer. I tried it after Victory Storm King, and while not on the same level it was still a decent brew. Pours a deep dark brown with a medium dark beige head. Earthy coffee/chocolate aroma. Not sure what oysters brought to the table but I am always for something different. Had a bottle-conditioned texture, with coffee, chocolate and prunes (?) in the flavor. Rather sharp finish. Not too bad.
