Purple waxed bomber from Julie who got it at Spec’s Liquor - San Antonio. Pours hazy dark orange amber with a transient beige head. Aroma is rich malt with dark fruit. Nearly full bodied. Flavor is somewhat roasty malt with a lot of dark fruit. Or maybe not all that dark. Heat is detectable as an aroma more than tingle. It’s on the malty side, but there must be enough hop to keep that under control, cause it’s not all that malty. Westy 12 it’s not, but it’s pretty tasty stuff.

On tap at the Hay Merchant. A black one, topped by a creamy tan head of finger thick size. Some curtains occur. There’s lots of gingerbread aromas in there, along with roasted malts and some booze. Honey cake hints. It’s full bodied and war, almost sticky on the palate. Sweet flavor with lots of gingerbread, overpowering the roasted malts, molasses and coffee. Some roasted kind of bitterness towards the end. There might be too much gingerbread going on here, but it’s sure nice anyway, at least when limited to one glass. 130825
