Coombe Down Farm, Beaminster, DT8 3LZ, England
Description
We’ve had a cider orchard on our family farm at Coombe Down, Beaminster for over 60 years. It’s been the central focal point of both mine and my brother’s growing up and our Dad before us.
Growing up, every year our friends would come together for parties underneath the blossom in the spring drinking last year’s home brew on the promise they’d be back again come harvest to pick apples for the next batch.
Previously we would always sell our apples to the big cider makers until we discovered through some ancestry research that we were descendants of the great renaissance scientist Sir Isaac Newton.
Now, we might not be geniuses like him, but like the apple that fell from the tree that gave Newton his eureka moment, we too had a major realisation. We shouldn’t just be selling to the big companies but keep some of our apples local and start making our own cider.
Isaac Cider is what we came up with. An honouring of our heritage but also a celebration of the county and friends that make our farm so special.
That’s why Isaac Cider is picked by friends, made by family and best enjoyed with both.

Sample courtesy of Grumbo, cheers! Aroma of sweet apples, hints of wood and citrus. Not a lot of funk. Taste is full of apple and hints of tannin. Very refreshing to drink.

500ml bottle from Corks of Cotham. Golden in colour, with no head but plenty of fizziness. Rich, apple aroma with a hint of woody core and yeasty peel. Easy drinking, with lots more fruit starting with some sweetness before a fuller dryness kicked in. A quaffable cider.

500ml bottle delivered from Scrattings Cider and drunk at home. Golden and clear with no head and a little bit of fizz. Light sugary apple aroma. Taste is similar, very nice flavour of apple but there isn't that wonderful 'bite' you get from the best ciders. Short finish with medium to heavy carbonation. Decent and well-made but pretty forgettable.
